    8 weeks - head 25 percentile

    Hi there,

I just came back from my maternal child health nurse. DS head is measuring on 25 percentile at birth he was on the 50th. His length is 75 percentile and weight dropped from 75th percentile down to 50 percentile. The nurse said I had nothing to worry about because his development seemed fine. I can't help but worry - it's my nature.

Do you think I have a reason to worry about his head circumference?

I wouldn't worry. Both my kids had head circumferences that were miles away from their height and weight percentiles. DS was 50% for weight/height and not on the chart for head and DD was 90% for weight/height and under 50% for head. They, like me, are just small headed people.

Also they are really wriggly and with different people doing the measuring in slightly different spots, even a cm difference makes quite a big change on the graphs.

DS1 was born with a small head... only around the 5th % while everything else was around the 50th %. It worried me a bit at the time, but he is very clever, so there obviously wasn't anything missing in there just because his skull was small. Try not to worry.

i have a boof head here, head 90th and weight now down to the 30th. she looks in proportion to me though! only if there was a big difference in a short amount of time (and it wasn't just different people measuring) would i start to worry.

We had the opposite problem - a big boofa head! The MCHN was abut concerned as DD went off the scale at one stage so she made me see my GP. I wasn't too concerned though as boof heads run in our family as babies and my GP agreed after hearing that and checking her out that there was nothing to be concerned about. DD is fine and has always looked in proportion. Try not to worry

We had the opposite too - at one stage DD1 was 3rd for weight, 50th for length and 95the for head! She looked like a lollypop! DP and I both have big heads so it wasn't surprising though.
