    Likelihood of whooping cough?

So over the Easter weekend, I was in contact with someone who told me they have whooping cough (grrr, thanks for letting me know before we met up). A few days later I came down with a sore throat and cold, which was inevitable since the kids were just getting over their own colds.

Anyway, my cough started on Friday and my cold symptoms are getting worse, not better. Last night I was up for hours coughing and threw up twice I don't have the whoop sound but I've heard not everyone does get the whoop sound. Normally, I wouldn't think anything of it but since I was in contact with someone who had whooping cough, I'm a bit worried.

What do you think my chances are of contracting it?

Got a doc appointment this afternoon to get checked to be on the safe side.

I could be wrong as I'm not 100% sure, but from what I know, whooping cough has a bit of an incubation period and can take 3 or so weeks for a cough to appear, before then it's runny nose etc. So I'm not sure if you'd get a cough that quickly? Like I said though, not 100% sure.

ETA maybe it's listeria that takes a few weeks to show? Bah, preggo brain, I dunno. I hope for your sake it isn't though When I was like 9 weeks someone mentioned their kid had had whooping cough, I was so ****ed off!

Apparently it takes 7 to 10 days for symptoms to appear, so yes it could be. Antibiotics will stop you being infectious but won't stop the coughing unfortunately

I'm pretty sure most adults don't make the whooping sound when they have whooping cough. A test will show if you have it though.

    Thanks for your replies

Doc thought it could be a possibility so had a blood test and got some antibiotics. Really hope it's not cause my SIL is due to give birth any day now and I don't want to miss out on newborn snuggles! Just got to ride it out I guess.
