Sitting. Awake. In the dark. Weird right?

Ok from my other posts everyone would know I have just transitioned my DD to her own bed in her own room after co sleeping. It is going really well, she is waking less and settling into sleep so much easier. I finding it harder but that is not what this post is about

    So

I have the monitor by my bed and at around midnight I can't stand it anymore and go and peek at her since she hasn't made a peep in hours.

She is sitting up. Wide awake. In the dark. Hands in her lap. Staring right at me once my eyes adjust to the dark room.

Wtf!? I laid her down and she was instantly back to sleep.

A little freaked out I go back to bed. At 3am I wake up and can't resist checking her again.

She is sitting up. Wide awake. In the dark. Hands in her lap. Staring right at me once my eyes adjust to the dark room.

Again she goes straight back to sleep once I lay her down and doesn't stir till morning.

Is this normal? Is she sleeping at all or just sitting in the dark waiting for me all night but not calling out!?!? Or am I just spidey sensing when she is awake? I am really freaked out. DP is worried she is too scared to call out but she doesn't seem scared.... Just calmly sitting and.... Waiting???

    So weird. So so weird.

Hmm, is it possible the door is waking her up, so she is bolts right up? And how is she in the morning, does it seem like she has had a good night sleep?

I wondered about the door but DP has oiled it and checked it so it is pretty much silent. And she seems so .... Casual and comfy? Not like she has just sat up you know?

She seems well rested, her sleeping patterns have always been crazy but they seem to be better now.

It just really bothered me that BOTH times she was doing it. I keep telling myself I just caught her in between re settling herself but it is so weird I can't stop thinking about it. I want to check her so bad but don't want to wake her up... And tbh I think I would be a bit scared if her if she was waiting for me in the dark again! Lol

Is she really awake? Or is it like sleep walking but sleep sitting instead? I can see how whatever it is, it would feel pretty unsettling!

I might guess though that as you are both so used to each other's night rhythms that maybe you are just sensing that she's awake and walking in just as she's sat herself up? She certainly doesn't sound upset or worried.

Wow it's so interesting - look forward to hearing if it continues!

I suppose she could be not really awake. I have found her asleep sitting up once since we started using the big bed.

Yes! I was actually quite terrified of her for a few moments ( I straight away thought she was possessed... I am deeply ashamed of that now but it was so freaky)

I am going to check her now. I can't stand it. If she is doing it again I may never sleep again.

I wish I hadnt just read this before I try to go to bed LOL sorry but I have goosebumps. If she stands and starts walking backward I would get concerned.

Having said that, my DS has done this before. Except he would be standing in his cot, leaning on the rail so only his littl eyes were peering over the edge. Totally silent, scared the hell out of me the first time because I was looking for a sleep bub laying down and saw eyes staring at me.

I am glad I'm not the only one who is scared by it!

DP wants to put a camera in her room to make sure she is sleeping but that is a little too "paranormal activity" for me. I am already having to for myself a pep talk just to check her in case she is doing the creepy Mr Burns hands again!

Ok she is fast asleep! Laying down and not looking creepy thank god! Man I feel so silly, it doesn't even come up when I google it. Yes I googled "toddler awake sitting up not crying" a million times!

hahaha scary and funny all at once! I would say she is asleep. My mum said that she would sometimes check on me and i would be sitting up 'awake' in bed. She would just tell me to lie back down and go to sleep - i would and that was that...sleeping 'sitting' i guess! never got out of bed or anything!

Meercat, kids have to learn to be afraid of the dark. If you are a one-year old, there is nothing "spooky" or paranormal about the dark. Little kids don't get freaked by it the way adults do.... Here's hoping she settles down for you

My eldest used to do all sorts of strange things during his sleep. Including walking, getting up (and nearly peeing in the cupboard), and carrying on entire conversations whilst deeply asleep.

They do tend to grow out of it eventually!

Ok I am really going to freak people out now!

Just found her standing by her bed!

I think she is doing her own little version of sleep walking? She was fast asleep, but standing up. I just laid her back down and she was snoring away.
