Getting out of the 'treat' habit...

When DD started using the toilet we gave her treats every time she did to encourage her. But now I'm regretting that decision. I don't want her just to go to the toilet just to get a treat, I want her to go because, well, that's what you do! lol.

The 'treats' we gave her were just a couple of grapes or sultanas or something, lol. But then being with family for a while over easter you can imagine well meaning relatives started giving her chocolate! Now every time she goes she runs out yelling 'chocolate egg! chocolate egg!'. Hmm......

So, how do I get her out of the habit? Just refuse and deal with the tantrums? Cut it down and give her a treat every second time or something?

I used treats initially with DD1 too, once she got the hang of the toilet i decided i needed to stop. So i just stopped. I explained to her that she was a big girl now and didn't need them. She was a bit upset that day but we managed, she never asked again after that.

Yes, without success. She's persistent, lol.

Maybe start up a chart and have the treat at the end of day or week or something instead?
