    12 month old sleep issues

Ds is 12 months old and has just started having 40 minute naps. He wakes crying and I'll cuddle him and he'll fall back asleep but if I try putting him down he wakes crying again.

He doesn't do this at night, only for his morning and afternoon sleep.

Is there anything I can do to encourage him to sleep longer?

I found that when my son started to have 2 x shorter naps, it was his way of telling me he was ready for one long day sleep. He was a little older than your wee man (around 15 months) but from what I understand 12 months is quite common to drop to one sleep.

It was around that age that my DD started moving to one sleep in the middle of the day rather than 2 sleeps. It sounds to me like your little man may also be ready to transition to one longer day sleep.

    Good luck!

I have tried keeping him up longer but he is so grumpy, and then still ends up only sleeping for about 1 hour and wakes up grumpy again

How long does a good sleep go for?

Hotl - I guess however long it takes for him to not wake up grumpy!! When I have the time to cuddle him after his first 40 mins (hard to do with a 3yo), he can sleep for another hour and then he wakes up happy

Im with the above in terms of moving him to one sleep. The transition for me was a bit hit and miss as well to start off with, but I found that lunch at 11am (I know it sounds like a crazy time, but it works, and still works (he's nearly 3) and in bed by 11:30am. He couldn't stand it much more than that for ages, but its only been recently that he can go until mid-day if need be, but its, still, in bed by no later than 11:45. If he's an early riser, I hope that this time frame is useful to you. And also check for teeth. I found that both the kiddies if they were a bit unwell with teeth had poor day sleeps.
