i am about to go and have my first scan and i am 6 and half weeks. we had 2 implanted and i am wondering if all twins will show up first time. i really feel theres 2 and i had high hcg levels
just don't wanna be panicking and then find out later they missed one. lol
I had my first scan at 6weeks on the dot by lmp. One twin was measuring on 6w, the second twin 5w5d, at this scan the twin that was measuring the dday behind, the sonographer couldnt get a reading of the heartbeat. Sometimes when she pushed on my belly a certain way you could see a heartbeatbut you couldnt see what was the sac what was the baby so no way of getting the reading. The sonographer guess the heartbeat was only 8-90 beats per minute at a guess but she thought it was just too early so I had another scan in 5days time.
At the second scan 5days later he babies were measuring 6w3d and 6w2d....this was nothing to worry about, scans can always be out. Both he babies had obviously grown, even though they both still obviously looked like peanuts it was aazing to see first hand the difference in just 5days! Both their heartbeats were easy to see and both around the 130 mark.
Sorry for the long story, I was just hinking myself I always like the long story and the most experiences I can get so thought I would share. I have been thinking of your today and really hope your scan shows 2 happy healthy babies!
Oh and the other thing I wanted to add was when she first started the scan we immediately saw one sac and it took a little while to see the second sac even though our twins were immediately next to each other so if that happens to you don't think it means there is definitely only one
I have heard of twins not even picked up on 36 week scans. Mind you they weren't specifically looking for them either like you are. I hope you see two strong little heart beats
I had my first scan at 7 weeks and it was so obvious that it was twins! Well, obvious to DH and the guy doing the scan - I took a little bit longer to work it out but clicked when DH started laughing. It was a heart stopping but amazing moment! We had discussed it being twins but never thought it would happen!
Good luck
Thinkng of you today JBM and can't wait to hear your awesome news. I cared for a lady as a midwife who didn't find out she was having twins until 15weeks. Her 13weeks NT scan showed bub had something wrong with its heart. She spent 2weeks waiting for a more detailed scan and imagine her surprise when it turned out they were actually looking at the two hearts not one. Apparently they were on top of each other which gave the impression there was a problem but they were seeing part of the two hearts not each one seperately. She had 3 scans prior to finding out she was having twins. I was there at the birth and she had the most gorgeous ID twin girls at term. I loved caring for her she was such a lovely lady. They were such lucky little bubbas.
And another midwife I worked with delivered an undiagnosed twin at term. The mother had a morphology scan which didn't show the second twin.
Also one of the older Drs I worked with said the easiest way to know its twins is to do a head count after the birth.
And another lovely older midwife I worked with insisted this lady was having twins (this was 30yrs ago before routine scans) but the Dr said she wasn't. The lady was a regular to the hospital with BP problems so the midwife saw her regularly and she (the midwife) insisted all along there was 2 babies in there and the Dr said no the woman was only a silly little twit. The midwife told him even silly little twits can have twins and a month or so later out popped 2 babies. I know a few other twin stories but mostly back in the days when there was no scans.
But these days its exceptionally rare for it to not be diagnosed after 12weeks.
Hi JBM - thinking of you today and hoping your scan shows 2 healthy little bubbas. My Mum found out she was having twins when she gave birth to one baby and then heard the doctor say "holy crap there is another baby in there - pass the forceps!" Mum gave an almighty push and out popped the surpirse baby. Of course this was 36 years ago and they didn't do scans regularly back then so I am sure you will be able to find out at this scan (just a funny little family story I wanted to share with you).
