Cafes/Restaurants to go for birthday cake in Melbourne

I want to go somewhere for a nice cake with my brother for his birthday in Melbourne on weekend - any suggestions? Can be somewhere which just does nice slices of cake, doesn't have to be a full cake, somewhere can get to on public transport.

Brunetti's in Carlton has beautiful cakes and other Italian type deserts. One block from the Melbourne Uni tram stop. It's near the corner of Lygon and Faraday Street.

Or you could go to some of the cake shops along Ackland Street, St Kilda.

Oh thanks for the replies - I didn't realize there were any Max Brenner's in Melbourne have been there in Sydney. Koko Black I like but have been quite a bit as there is one down the road, same with Brunetti's although the Carlton one does appeal, so selfishly I want to go somewhere new! Anyone been to the Max Brenner in South Melbourne? As we may go to some of the playgrounds in Albert Park after.

I do love Acland Street - the 100 year old cheesecake is fantastic, but again have been there loads and taken my brother there already (he is over from UK for a year or so, so want to take him somewhere new)

After all that and drooling over thought of chocolate, now have cold and not going anywhere!! Hoping to be over it by tomorrow as there are steam trains running between Camberwell and Mitcham and wanted to do that, so maybe can do Koko Black after. Am pleased I started this thread as now know about max brenner in melb.
