What do I need to consider, my baby brain really isn't thinking and we did it all wrong when we moved from Auckland, NZ to Brisbane.
Any ideas on who to use to move out things?
Who's the best for Rental Properties in Canberra?
I'm actually a little sad on the idea of leaving the house we are currently in but as we are about to sign the next 12 month lease we kind of have to jump on the idea of relocating ASAP :-(
On a bonus DH's job seems to be going real well down there and they are talking about long term contracting rather than just the 6 months he's been signed up to so far
im doing it too, sunshine coast to canberra. i just rang a load of removalists to get quotes.
crown movers, $3400
one called 'you pack' where they give you a shipping container for a 12 days and you pack it your self, they move it and you have 12 days to unpack it - $4360
backload 4u - $2100. (07 5520 0488) they were the best of the backloading lot, offer insurance etc, been doing it a while, they sound lovely and were happy to answer my questions...of which there were many!!
those prices are fron just north of noosa. for 20 cubic meters worth of stuff.
Check out "allhomes dot com dot au" first for rentals. Make sure there are things in your price range you are willing to live in, and check out schools in your area (rents are $$$ and the ACT education system makes it very hard to get into any school that is not for your catchment). Ring the REA's listed for adverts you like and talk with them, but be aware that in ACT you have to veiw an 'open house' before you are allowed to sign a lease. So you will need to have someone down here veiwing them, or be willing and able to stay somewhere for a couple of weeks whilst you do this yourself.
As for removalist, get out the yellow pages and ring around and compare quotes. If you can, fitting in a backload usually works out to be the cheapest option. But it also depends on how much packing you wish to do yourself.
We have a heap of stuff and it was 16 cubic metres.( four bedroom house ) Hope you didnt overestimate your stuff beckoes, really makes a difference in price
when we moved here we just got our stuff in a 20 cubic meter truck. but to be fair i did move a load of boxes full of junk which ive now thrown away so might end up being less! might have to check!
Almost all homes for rent or sale are listed on allhomes in ACT. (about 99% of them). Most of the REA's won't print out rental lists, they just direct everyone to allhomes. I found that out the hard way when I moved here. Even most of the private rentals are listed there.
Thanks been looking at all homes... and wow rent is more expensive there but it's the same as us paying for two rents while he is down there and me staying here. There is currently heaps of talk of them extending his contract and a "large master plan" involving him waiting to be signed off.
Once we take into account his flights homes, a second car and the double rents / expenses and the possibilities of the contracting being extended we are seriously considering being together as it's not worth being apart.
Apparently one of the guys DH works with has a very on to it partner who did lots of study on which schools etc so when they all catch up over the weekend DH will talk to his partner on areas that could work for us.
We just talked on the phone and with the option of him perhaps getting a permanent role we may be able to get them to pay for transfer costs in 5 months time so another idea is to put our stuff in storage and rent an apartment until then. The storage costs should get covered by the working away from home allowance or something similar anyway
Been approved for one rental and looking at our last one tomorrow then to decide but we aren't ready ARGH lol heading back to Brisbane tomorrow and will have to start planning, looks like I could be down there beginning of next month if we take the one we were offered today.
Well containers packed, either at the train station or on the train!!! Arrive Thursday morning then straight to our new home to wait for the truck :-D crazy stuff!!!
