Treating a skin condition on my bb??

For over a month now i have had a skin irritation on my breasts (bb). It started off as a little blister on one breast and it has gradualy become bigger and is now on both. One side is worse than the other.

I have been to the the dr's twice now, firstly the dr said it was dermatitis, prescribed a cream that i could only use for 2 weeks and took a swab to see if anything grew Nothing did, it was all clear but then after 2 weeks the cream made no improvement.

I went back the second time and saw a different dr, he said it looked as though it was possibly infected so i'm now taking antibiotics and have been told to apply an antifungle cream on the areas. I have now been doing this for a week but still really do not have any improvement.

It's driving me crazy it is so extremely uncomfortable, itchy and sore. It's red and inflamed still and the little blisters are weaping. Sorry if this sounds really quite grose

I'm just a bit lost as to what it could be, i'm not even sure it is dermatitis?? With not having any real improvment this week i feel like i'm taking the antibiotics for no reason (i don't feel sick) and if they aren't doing anything i really don't want them while i'm breastfeeding DD. Doing this also increases our chance of getting thrush.

Not too sure if or what anyone could suggest but all i can do is go back to the dr's again...

With it being on the bb area (kind of around the outer nipple/areola) is it possible that DD is somehow causing this?? She is fine, happy, feeding well but could she have a bug living in her mouth that is infecting me?? The only other things i can think of is soap wash and i use Hamiltons wash and washing powder and that hasn't been changed for about 6 months.

It's really starting to get to me and it looks really quite horrible. Do you have any advice at all ladies?? I really want it gone.

    Thanks

I would be going back to the dr and asking for a dermatologist referral asap. If it doesn't respond to treatment then you may want to ask for a biopsy to rule out a more sinister cause. Unlikely but best to rule it out anyway.

Thanks Marydean i will go back on Monday, i tried to get an appt today but they were fully booked.

I do get dermatitis, mainly on my hands but it clears up with cream. I'm not sure what this is if it isn't dermatitis?? And the creams just don't seem to be having any effect.

I hope something can work soon and something that won't effect my breastfeeding because DD and i have a long way to go with that yet.

Ok i'm still in need of some help and advice....

I've been to the dr's another 2 times. I think we are treating it as thrush now, i'm not entirly sure if this is what it is but i'll give it a go and hope for some improvement. From what i've read it mainly effects the nipples but i seem to be effected more so around the the nipple area. DD is totally clear she has no signs of it.

Does this sound like thrush or not??

It might help to post in the breastfeeding support section, as barb gare has lots of useful advice. Sometimes you need to treat three ways- with an AB for infection, a steroid to soothe, and and antifungal. But if you dont get any relief, get another opinion. I don't want to alarm you but breast cancer sometimes manifests first as a rash in the nipple area, so if it worsens or shows no improvement then you may need to insist on getting it investigated to rule that out.

Thanks Marydean i think i will try that, i'm still battling with it and i know it's not going to go away over night but all these treatments really don't seem to be making a bit difference just yet.

One of the Dr's i saw did mention the connection to breast cancer and he did a breast examination so i think we can rule out that for the moment.

Thank you so much for you help
