DD was playing with the pegs from the bucket when i was hanging out the washing - i always let her do this as it keeps her entertained for ages.
When we were getting ready to go back inside i started helping her put the pegs back in the bucket only to notice a redback spider sitting there starring at me...it was about a cm from her hand
Note to self - buying a bucket with a lid tomorrow!!!
it's scary isn't it.. FWIW i had one with a lid and creepy crawlies still managed to find their way in.
I have one that detaches from the line and i bring it inside with my washing basket
Good point! Our washing hangs on our deck and I take the peg basket in every night but there are often things on it still. And most days there are spider's webs across the line. Last week DS was 'looking' at a teeny tiny spider on our decking wire when 'gulp!' out he reaches and stuffs it in his mouth! Imagine if it'd been a redback or white tailed spider??!!!
They are everywhere ATM and not just hiding either. We had one relaxing on the bricks next to the back door The boys spotted it as soon as they went outside!
I am quite ok with spiders minding their own business behind the spare fridge in the shed but not somewhere I or my kids put their hands thankyou very much. Apparently spiders don't like lemon or lavender much, so maybe wiping the inside of your peg bucket may convince the lovely lady Red to go hide out elsewhere?
How scarey! We live kinda in the bush and DH left the peg bag hanging on the trolley outside after he hung the clothes out in the morning. We both went out that afternoon to take the washing in, only to find a SNAKE in the peg basket!!!!!!!!! It was only a green tree snake but still make me jump and run a mile. So definately check your peg basket for nasties!
I think I need to take mine inside too, I noticed the other day mine is full of spider webs & I'm too scared to pull pegs out now. Speaking of redbacks, my sil gave us a playcentre thing the other day, one of the ones where bub sits in the centre & I was cleaning it up & in the bottom there was a nasty big redback bleh, I literally gag when I see spiders. They're gross!
We have LOADS of redbacks here, like hundreds and I'm not exaggerating, it freaks me out as I hate spiders. I also hate chemicals but we have got the house sprayed for the 2nd year in a row now cause I swear every redback on the sunshine coast has made it's home somewhere around my house! On the peg front I bring them inside
scary....i have to admit to leaving the pegs on the line and the spiders sometimes make little homes in the peg and i squish them by mistake when im pegging stuff out. glad nothing bad happened!!!
