My Daughter is 3 and for a few days now has had a runny nose and watery eyes. It started off just like that and then 2 nights ago she also had a temperature which was brought down when I gave her panadol. For the last 24 hours I have been watching her closely, kept her home from daycare and kept up with the panadol as she still feels warm when the panadol starts to wear off.
Apart from being a bit grumpy for the first day or two, she is actually fine in all other ways apart from the runny nose.
I was going to take her to the docs yesterday but changed my mind as she seemed okay and I just assumed it was nothing to worry about. This morning she has got up at 6am telling me she is really hungry but since getting up has refused to eat anything and I have just changed her nappy from overnight and it was completely dry. She uses the toilet during the day but normally still has a wet nappy after sleeping. Should I be concerned that she went 12 hours without a wee or is it nothing to stress about? After I took her nappy off she did a little wee on the potty, I am going to try and give her lots of warm water today to make sure she isnt dehydrated or something...
Poor little thing, i'd def keep up the fluids and if she wont eat/drink maybe try an icypole, hydrolite are good if you have any.
If not it can't hurt to take her to the GP just to be sure.
Thanks for the replies, yesterday she didn't drink lots but she did have a cup of juice and also some milk before bed so I was just a bit worried when her nappy was so dry when she woke up. She has been okay most of the morning but still not eating or drinking very much. Trying to get lots of water in to her but it's not happening, might just have to give up on the water and switch to juice as she prefers it (like most kids do!)
I don't have a car during the day so it's hard to get out and about but I might try get in to the docs this evening once my husband is home from work :-)
If she seems like she is on the up and up then a dr probably isn't going to tell you much apart from what you are already doing - keep up the fluids and encourage her to eat when she feels like it. If she has a bit of a cold the food and drink probably don't taste like normal. Does she like soup?
She has always been a rather fussy eater but as I type this I have a big pot of veggie soup on the stove...she is having a nap now as she was up at 6am and hopefully she will fancy some soup when she gets up. Thanks for the concern ladies, I am sure it is just a cold and will be gone soon. It is horrible when they aren't themselves though, isn't it?
Just wanted to upate you lovely ladies who offered advice...took my daughter to the docs on saturday, turned out to be a throat infection and she was given antibiotics, saturday evening she started with a little rash on her bottom which i thought was just nappy rash due to her having the runs for two days...turns out it got worse on sunday so took her back to the docs on monday and it is a possible allergic reaction to penicillin OR a viral infection rash...so she is on other antibiotics now, is eating and feeling a lot better but still covered in a red rash, especially on her poor little face.
