is it the flu or not???

i went to bed last night feeling fine but woke a few hours later with what felt/feels like the flu, now i havent had the flu in years..plenty of colds but not the flu.
i have aching joints (and i mean everything hurts) a funny throat (kind of dry scratchy) slight blocked/runny nose and fatigue...oh and a headache
im feeling better now after some advil and one cold and flu tablet.
is it the flu?? or something else??
if its the flu i assume i'll get worse tomorrow or not?
what could i have if its not the flu??

It sounds like a really nasty cold. It's been a while since I had the real flu, I remember not being able to get out of bed at all, vomitting, aching, high fever with the shakes/chills.
Lots of fluids, lemon and honey if you can. Throat lozenges if you think they will help or gargle water.

    Hope you are feeling better.

Well now it sounds like you are heading to flu territory. I also rememeber it was 5days before I started to feel ok again. Take care Olive, as you probably know, nothing can done for the official flu. Try and take it easy and get your DH to do as much as possible for the girls or get someone over to help so you can get some rest.

Could be some rare nasty virus.....

Sounds like the flu to me. I had swine flu earlier this year and felt just like you describe....

If you really want to you can get antiviral meds from the drs, but you need to go within 48hrs of onset of symptoms. It will reduce the severity and duration of the symptoms.

Oh you poor thing, I hope it's not the flu . I had it many years ago and it was not nice.

I hope you feel better soon. Have you got anyone on hand to help out with the girls if you need it?

Maybe! Even if you do, it wouldn't make a difference. All flu's kind of make you feel the same. So you wouldn't know unless you had a swab and they don't swab for it anymore as it is no worse than any other flu strain.
I only went to the drs because i thought it could be Malaria, i have to have a blood test done every time i get a fever. They decided to swab to as well to rule out influenza. Turned out i had pig flu. But it really was no worse than the usual flu. i didn't take antivirals and felt like crap for a week, then got bronchitis, but nothing too bad.

You don't get chills and achy joints from being run down. You are however more susceptible to bugs when you are run down. I'd say you definitely have a virus of some sort. Do you have a fever?

Could be any sort of nasty virus causing you to feel like crap. If just viral not much you can do anyway regardless if flu or another sort, fluids, rest etc. Take cold and flu pills to help the symptioms, ease the aches and pains and fever.
