I started nursing over 18 years ago but had to give it up as i fell pregnant and never got back into it i went into hospitality insted and now have been working in the same place for 11 years and really hate it i would love to know how to get back into nursing but have no clue where to start.
I would be classed as mature age and would love to do nursing/midwifery i live on the central coast so the nearest uni is ourimbah.
What requirements do i need now after all these years do i have to do open foundation 1st and can any be done online or do i have to attend uni and how much can i expect to be paying.
Any info will help thanks
I would contact your nearest university and see what they offer. Few places I believe offer a double degree in nursing and midwifery anymore so you may need to do nursing and then midwifery once your an RN.
You should beable to get a HELP debt so you don't need to pay upfront. Unless your income in really high then most people are entitled to it for a bachelor degree. Otherwise if you can afford to pay upfront you pay a reduced fee. Well thats how it worked when I was doing it.
I imagine you should beable to apply anyway and then once your accepted do a bridging course to help with the chemistry etc if you need. The uni I went to run them during the holidays for the students that were starting in new semester in the Feb.
Your university should be able to answer all your questions.
Nursing is available through OUA. It's run through UniSA, and I know that you have to be able to go to South Australia to do a couple of weeks pracs if you do the whole thing through them, but I'm sure you could do a couple of the foundation courses online to prove yourself, and then use those to get into the uni near you to finish the rest. Otherwise you could do an RN diploma through your closest tafe and use that to get in, or you'd have to sit a mature age STAT exam.
