Can you learn to be stylish or is it a skill your born with?

I see so many great looking girls when I am out and about shopping, lets put it this way I am not so clever at being stylish, I am fashion shy, I never step outside my comfort zone and try new styles because simply I just dont know where to start.

I like to dress for comfort first but most of the time that translates to trackies and casual tops. I would love to be able to get dressed and feel stylish but I dont know where to start.

Are there places onine to go and get styling tips, I know you can get personal stylists to come and help you out but I am afraid as soon as they were gone I would be lost again and waste all my money.

Am I destined to be stuck in trackies or is there something I can do.

I think unfortunately, stylish people seem to be born that way....but, I also think its a matter of what's important to you too. I have a gorgeous friend who is very stylish and clothes / fashion is really important to her and she always looks great. I on the other hand, don't prioritise clothes in the family budget and I am more for practical comfort than fashion.

I am determined though, after this baby is born and I am back to my fighting weight, that I am going to take my gorgeous friend shopping with me, with a large wad of cash & try and get some classic peices that suit me that are stylish rather than 'fashion' so I can throw together some looks and feel like I am looking halfway decent. I know I feel better when I make an effort.

Have you got a friend you trust that could help you shop for clothes that suit you & your lifestyle but are still stylish?

I agree it's just something some people seem to be very good at, and for what it's worth stylish doesn't mean expensive......just all fits together well, looks good (imo anyway).

Westfield have a websited that offers tips, they also have stylist in many major centres that can give some quick tips (i got some good ones just last week) & if you have the $$ to spend they will spend 2hrs with you take you around & shop with you.

I'm not great at it, but often I take not with what i've seen go together well on others & steal there style provided it suits me too

Oh yeah, and I often work out an outfit around how many things it will work with in my wardrobe etc so I don't waste my money.

i think it a bit of both. I've just re-dug out my trinny & suzanna books because i know i sometimes don't put things together as well as i could for my body shape. I have also made the conscious decision to not leave the house looking like a dag but sometimes i still fail and wear trackies outside in public.

I also try to do little stylish things like match handbag & shoes, like today, black & white heels with a black & white handbag.

I also plan my work clothes, including shoes/handbag/accessories, I do this on a Sunday, it isn't necessarily the 'this is monday' outfit, but 5 outfits for that week, also means I have to do the ironing on a Sunday, no ironing = no business shirts!

There's a website called birds nest that helps out heaps with what to buy and how to wear it.

    Oh yay ginger!

My mil and sil are both so trendy and always have a bit of a bruised self esteem after seeing them.

Sil has taken me out shopping before which is always fun... But expensive.... But I cant help but go back to my practical clothes that doesn't matter if they get kid snot and grime all over!!

I think I'll be stuck permanently in the realm of the fashion train wreck. Yes, I could do more homework, invest more time and spend a LOT more money, but at the end of the day, is it worth it???

Style is created, not innate. Look at me! I finally have a clue!

First of all, chuck out the trackie bottoms. They are never stylish. I buy slowly and in sales - so not fashionable, but they suit me. Having to re-do my wardrobe as I am now suiting greys more and more - my colouring has changed quite a bit this last year. So spending about £100 twice a year and get loads of complements. Some of my clothes are 10 years old, but amazingly I found some stuff years ago that suits me. Plus my sister has bought me some great, stylish things in the past.

I always dress to look nice - what's the point having nice things if you don't wear them? They can be cleaned, after all.
