Hi there,
I have been told by my gp that my little DD has a hernia (umbilical hernia I think). We had a rushed appointment and I only thought of it on the way out the door, as I asked how dd's belly button could go from being an innie to an outie. We have to go back next week to get a referral letter to see a surgeon
Can anyone advise what is involved, or if anyone has had one get better without surgery? My dd1 has had several gut surgeries so I'm not new to seeing surgeons etc, just don't want to send my baby off to theatre unless absolutely necessary.
Hi Hun. My DH as a newborn had surgery to correct this type of hernia. It is relatively straight forward surgery and I'm pretty sure it needs to be operated on, or so my mil said to me.
I think they still do it with keyhole surgery. It's amazing what they can do now a days with technology and health.
Hope your LO feels better soon xx

Most umbilical hernia's resolve themselves, They won't look at surgery until at least 2 years, some surgeons not until 5 years so don't rush. Very common, they don't usually cause any problems
