18 month old with Diarrhoea - help!

My DS has had diarrhoea since last Sunday, so nine days and counting. It's not watery, just mucousy or mushy (sorry, TMI). He has been going up to ten times a day and his poor bottom is red raw and it stings to clean him, even just using water and cloth wipes. At first I thought it was from eating too many sultanas, as this has happened in the past, but I haven't given him any since last weekend and he still isn't any better. I took him to the Dr today, as I was concerned about Giardia as it is apparently doing the rounds. The Dr was not really concerned at all and says it definately doesn't sound like Giardia and, as DS is well in himself and otherwise acting normal, just to keep an eye on it.
DS is still having 1-2 Breastfeeds a day but he also has 2 bottles of cows milk (300mls each). He is a good eater and has a wide variety of foods every day, he eats everything we eat.
The Dr did say to avoid giving him milk for a while. I don't really know what i can give him instead of milk in his bottles as he is pretty attached to his morning and evening milk!
I am wondering if he has developed an allergy to something. I have been taking a new iron supplement (floradix) since just before this problem started. I have stopped taking it for now. I have also started him on probiotics.
I just want my little boy to get better. It breaks my heart to see him in pain when I change his nappy

Any advice or suggestions would be great.. Thanks in advance x

I'd think it could be the iron... DD is on an iron supplement at the moment and it effects her poos. The probiotic is a great idea - what brand did you get though, because some don't really do enough - we use bioceuticals and it's got a great reputation.

He couldn't be teething could he? Dd always gets diarrhea and a really painful bum just before a new tooth appears.

We're also on a dairy free diet here and that has made a difference to DD's poos, it maybe worth a try, but you need to cut it out for at least 2 weeks to be sure. You should look for changes in energy levels and sleep patterns as well as stopping the tummy problems. You could try oat milk, rice milk or almond milk. Soy milk isn't so good as it's often a GM crop and there are currently studies being carried out to do with soy mimicking estrogen within the body too.

If you're still worried I'd go to another dr. It's quite a long time for it to last, and it's so sad when they are poorly too

I just went through this with my DD a few months ago.

She had chronic Diarrhea, bloated tummy, farting alot (some of the signs of lactose intolarnce and Giardia). My Dr suggest I take her off milk (and replace with soymilk) and he also did a Poo test. It only took a couple of days for the results to come back and it was Giardia, gave her her ABs andI kept her on soymilk and gave her a probiotic for about 2-4weeks after the dose of ABs and she is now all better.

    Thankyou so much ladies.

I am feeling so sad, he has pooed three times in the last 2 hours and his bottom is just burning he screams and screams when I change him.. It's heartbreaking.

Swoop, it is the Bioceuticals brand we use. We usually have him on it most of the time but I ran out a while ago and kept forgetting to buy some more. His eye teeth popped through about 3-4 weeks ago so they haven't descended all the way down yet but he has no new teeth coming at the moment. In the past his poo hasn't been affected by teething.

Thanks for advice on what milks to offer him. I was starting to feel a bit lost so thank you both heaps x
