What is this? Does it need to be looked at?

I have a red, puffy, sore eye It's in the inner corner on the bottom lid, and hurts when I press on it. It was a bit sore yesterday, but it's gotten worse today.

Is that a stye? I've never had one before, so I don't know what this is. Would it generally go away by itself, is there something I can do, or should I get it looked at?

    TIA

Sounds like it could be a stye or a blocked tear duct. I get them occasionally, every year or so and they tend to clear up by themselves in a couple of days. If it was me I'd probably just give it a day or two and if it isn't getting any better go to the GP.

Sounds like a stye to me too - they usually resolve themselves in a day or so.

Thanks Miss E & ausgirl I was hoping someone would say that - that they generally go away on their own. I'll definitely go to the docs if it gets worse or doesn't go away, but DH is worried about everything at the moment lol, wondering if things are made worse by pregnant

use a hot washer on it to help drain anything out of it. it may relieve the pressure and pain it it

Thanks Lulliloo I did find when I was in the shower yesterday that the hot water helped, so I'll definitely keep that up - seems to feel better after

I get them often, especially when I'm tired...
Warm/hot flannels a couple times a day, if u have chamomile tea, use some of this on a cotton ball, it will help...
NO eye make up til it's gone

Hehe I'm too lazy for makeup! I'll give the chamomile a go, thanks. I guess it must be tiredness that's done it, it's really hard to sleep lately so hopefully when I don't have a giant belly in the way I'll be able to at least nap more!

the theory of rubbing gold on it is an old wives tale, and usually all that happens in you run the risk of introducing further infection because most people use gold rings that are dirty from wear. In truth by rubbing something over it you can unblock the sty - it doesn't have to be gold.

warm flannel compresses are of better benefit for a sty
