Cooking roast lamb from frozen - Please Help!!

I was really wanting roast lamb today but I forgot to get it out of the freezer . Is it ok to cook lamb from frozen? If I can how much longer do I have to allow it to cook? It is a 2.2kg leg of lamb.

    Thanks,
    Dan.

No you cant cook it from frozen unless you want to get sick. I suggest leaving it out til lunch time or around 2pm if its not fully defrosted by then, defrost in the microwave watching to make sure you dont start to cook it.

I often cook roasts from frozen. I allow an extra hour or so cooking and have never had a problem. The meat is well cooked and fine to eat.

I do it all the time too with lamb or beef and never gotten sick. As JM said add more time and just make sure it's cooked through.

I do it as well. I find it actually makes it more tender.

Chicken isn't ok to cook frozen because the cavity can harbour salmonella. (sp?)

    What Tinks said!

Definitely DONT cook chicken from frozen!!

Traditionally pork had to be fully defrosted too.

Thanks all so much. It is not going to be fully defrosted but well on the way.

How much extra time do you think I'll need to give it?

I cook lamb roasts from frozen all the time. I have never heard of anyone saying not to.
I do mine in the slow cooker until 3/4 cooked, then I pop it into the oven to finish it off.

Leaving it out to defrost is far more likely to cause deadly bacteria than cooking it from frozen.

    Just allow extra cooking time

I don't understand how cooking from frozen would increase the amount of harmful bacteria over defrosting first - even in the case of chicken? Wouldn't cooking from frozen mean it would spend less time in the key temperature zone for bacterial growth?
