Consolidated listing of council / hospital BF support services

Anyone know if there is a listing of avaiable council or hospital avaiable support services? Time I spent hanging around the BF room at hospital has convinced me that would be useful.

It would have been very helpful for me to know with my first son thtat my local council ran a drop in clinic 2 afternoons a week.BMCHN failed to mention it.

Often by the time people get to new parents group (if they go) it's too late.

I know the ABA have the hotline but sometimes you want to see someone and not everyone can afford a private LC.

If nothing exists I reckon we could each contact our local councils / public hospitals with a quick consistent list of questions (to be determined) and post the info.

my council does this - in the front of the blue book they put in a calendar that has all the available services & which days etc, including a BFing drop in time. as well as having the info on their website. not sure about hospitals though, but the midwives that came to see me at home gave me lots of info - one was an LC who carried heaps of ABA info sheets with her & also spent time with me showing me how to hand express, watching attachment etc.

it seems a shame that there is such a variation in service provided by different councils. i've actually been pleasantly surprised at how good my council is.

i do agree that the information should be readily available & really easy to find - when i first got home from hospital i had no idea how crazy the first few weeks would be & was really unprepared (despite lots of research while PG). if the info hadn't been so easy for me to locate, it would have made things quite difficult.

I'm prepared for this bub and researched my local services. 2 breadtfeeding midwives that do home visits until 6 weeks and run a weekly clinic for older bubs. I'll get a referral this week from my Maternal Health Nurse.

This info wasn't in my blue book or on the council website.

I was more making the point generally rather than for myself.

I think it depends on how proactive the local Council and mchn's are. At my first visit by a midwife & mchn at home, they gave me info on the local services for new mums including breastfeeding day stays. I haven't seen any lists for state wide services, great idea though!
