    Children services

I am currently looking at getting into study as I am quiet bored at home and can't go to work ATM..
I'm looking into doing a OTEN course for children's service.
    Has anyone done this?
    Or work in this field?
I'm very interested in doing so and have been for a long time.
I know it's not going to be pretty seeing children in bad situations but the fact I may help them makes my heart flutter..
    Anyone??
    TIA

I have my Diploma in Community Services, Childrens services. Is this what you mean? I also have my Early childhood teaching degree. I did it at tafe part time, but might be able to help. I have also worked in childcare services (Long day care, preschools, out of school hours, family day care....) for 15yrs. What would you like to know?

    Yes community services lol!!
Just wanted to know what you thought of the course?
What doors it opened for you?
Is this the sort of course that can get you into children's welfare I.e DoCs etc?

Children's Services normally refers to a qualification that enables you to work within the Childcare Industry.
If you are meaning this (childcare) I would steer clear of off-campus learning but you would be best to see if you can speak to OTEN students themselves.

ETA: To get into child welfare you would be better looking into social work I would think.

Yeah the course outlines don't really indicate childcare, that's wat I don't want to do lol I have to look after my kids that's definently enough.
I will look again but I'm pretty sure it's for social working etc

I agree with what Dragoncookie says. If you're looking into child welfare, rather than childcare (as in a childcare worker in a centre or something like that), then a social worker course would probably be more beneficial. While the Dip social services childrens services could get you into it, it's not the best way to go about it.

Here's a link I just found- Caseworker Careers
