I am pretty much 28 weeks now, I had a full blood count the other day and my platelets are quite low. I had another one and now waiting on results. Since then I have been referred to a haemotologist (which has been working with my gp til I can see him). So now i have a blood count and coagulation test every 2 weeks to keep an eye on them.
Im wondering if anyone else has had problems with low platelets during pregnancy etc and how everything went.
It's good that you're seeing a specialist. I'm not sure about low counts in pg but my DP has had low platelets (obviously for different reasons LOL) recently and he had transfusions when they got too low.
I know its a bit scary but if your counts go too low, they will probably just do a transfusion for you. Have you told your GP how upset and anxious you are? Go back and see them and tell them you need more info.
I hope it just turns out to be a PITA getting blood tests so regularly for the next three months. x
I had a bleed at about 33 weeks and when I went into hospital they told me it was because my platelets were low but I'm not sure if that is right or if that is why I started bleeding as I also had placenta previa and had a bleed prior to the one at 33 weeks and also one at 34 weeks which led to an emergency c-section. I have a feeling the bleeding was related to pp and not the low platelets but can't be sure because the hospital never really specified. Sorry, thats probably not much help. like Kaz suggested maybe go to the GP and ask them to explain it to you.
I find sometimes hospitals/dr's just talk and expect you to know what they are saying but that is never the case, at least with me At times I just had to say 'i dont understand what you are saying' and got them to dumb it down for me
