We are planning on getting DD a new doll and toy nursery set for Christmas this year so she can have a new baby to look after when mummy's new baby arrives
Brands Exclusive website has Baby Born dolls on special today so I was wondering if that would be a good option. DD will be 2 years and 3.5 months at Christmas.
They have a battery and non-battery operated option. Which would be better if I was to get one?
They also have a three wheeler double stroller cheap with a doubles kit (awww!) so would that be another good toy for DD given our pram will be setup with the double kit too?
I think as long as you take all the little bits away it should be okay. My DD is pretty good with choking hazards though and will show me if she's unsure if she can have something. I think most of the baby born features might be lost on someone so young though. I also don't know how the baby food in the baby born will go. Your DD might try to help by feeding the baby..
Maybe just get a soft bodied doll so she can give it good cuddles wthout hard bits? DD has one she loves and also a hard bodied one she takes into the bath with her (although given how she whacks that one around we'll have to watch her with new bub coming).
i also plan to get DD a special doll except I was going to give it to her when she came to meet her new sibling as a present from the new baby. she loves all of her dolls.
I'd probably go the non-battery operated option - the less stuff to potentially break down the better at that age. I gave my DD a 3 wheeler pram and she LOVED it, she was about the same age.
Some of the accessories for Baby Born are cool too, like the bottles and little clothes, she might need a bit of help to start off with but they soon get the hang of dressing/undressing baby and everything.
Our DD got a baby born for her 2nd b'day from her grandparents, she loves it. It came with a potty, bottle, dummy and a few other little things. We don't bother with feeding it real food or actual water, just pretend The doll doesn't have batteries but the potty does and plays music and flushes.
We just picked up a cheap stroller from target i think to go with it. The first night after she unwrapped it it had to have a bath with her and she still plays with it most days a few months on.
Have you seen the 'my first baby born' doll or something simlar - it's a smaller version and has a soft body - can still go in the bath with your daughter. Isla loves hers - got it last Christmas when she was 2 and 4 months and still loves it to bits. You can get separate clothes for it too so she can (give it to you to) change the outfits :-)
Thanks for your reply girls. I think DD would love it, she's such a mother hen already Her first doll is one of the Fisher Price 'stage 1' dolls which is little with a soft body. She does love it but she's really taken a shine to the bigger, Baby Born type dolls they have at our playgroup so I think it will be a winner.
She's great with small items now but if there is anything worrying I'll put those bits aside until she's older. I do like all the clothes and accessories you can buy for them. I feel like I'm reliving my childhood, I was a huge fan of dolls!
I'm due for our second baby on 28 Dec so if it arrives early, we'll give DD the doll as a gift from the baby then she can get the other stuff for Christmas.
