Yup, DS had this when he was a newborn too. We just kept it clean and it did clear up in time....
My baby girl is only 4 weeks old and since a few days old, she's had gooey, yellow/green discharge from her eyes that I continously have to wipe away for her gently. We've been to the GP and had Chlorsig ointment antibiotic prescribed for her and also been squirting BM into her eye whenever it needs doing. We've also tried the saline solution (cool boiled water). It clears up afterwards then a few hours later or the next day, it's back. She wakes up and it's all there again and we start again.... this has been ongoing for 3 weeks now and I feel so bad for her
I just started doing some proper reading about it as I want to clear it up for her. Her eyes can look quite red and sore at times and makes me feel so bad for her
Found a few things on the internet about it being blocked tear ducts instead of conjunctivitis.
Anyone had any problems with their newborns eyes from birth and what did you do to clear it up? I just have this feeling if it was conjunctivitis, wouldn't the ointment and BM have worked by now???
I'm now thinking she has blocked tear ducts which I've read will take time to clear themselves.... or massage of the eye area can help? But I'm not keen on doing that as I am not sure what to do. I am taking her back to the GP Monday first thing I've decided.
My poor baby girl, she's had this and also now having her 2nd cold.... just want her to be better![]()

My DD2 had a blocked tear duct from birth too. It looked yucky as it was a bit goopy looking sometimes. Mostly it was just watery.
I used saline and bm to wash it with and a few times a day used my very clean little finger to gently massage the tear duct in a circular motion.
After about 4 or 5 months it cleared up and started draining the tears away.
Just preserver with it and hopefully it will clear up for your DD. If not, I think they do a minor surgery after 12 months of age but hopefully it doesn't get to that xx
Squirt some BM in her eye every feed, not just when it looks goopy. Didn't seem to bother my DD at all to have an eye full of milk! Better than Chlorsig, ahould clear up over the next few months if it's a tear duct, or days if it's an infection.
