we're currently replacing ours, DH did one this morning, i was shocked to discover it was dues to be replaced, at the lastest, 8 years ago
so i highly recommend you check how old yours are and when there due to be replace

They have been running a campaign for a while now to check them on April Fool's Day every year and replace batteries.
