Gender being wrong at US at least once - and SONOGRAPHERS PLEASE HELP!!!!
Ok so this is going to be a little bit of a long story and it's not all neccessary to the point of this story but I need to get it all out!
So Monday I have my Morphology US all booked, I'm having twins so they booked me for 2.30pm I asked when booking if there was any later but they explained they would leave 2hrs for the scan due to twins and the extra 30mins at the end as a just in case buffer. So silly me forgot my referral, they called the dr where I got the referral to ask for a copy to be sent, I walked to the dr that is in the same building as this US place (this is where i USUALLY GO) and was told I would need a consult to get one but my usual dr was with one person at that point but as soon as that person came out I could get in and get the referral so I went back and asked the US place should I go that, they said no don't worry they would get the referral and I waited and waited and waited to have them call me over to say its looking like they're not going to get it and we'd have to cancel. I explained I needed the US before me next hosp appt cause its with ob to discuss (i.e me tell them I will be seeing midwives) my plan of care, due to being twins there are certain things that they need to know from my US that will change what they suggest so I needed the scan before then, appt is on monday, they said they could get me in wednesday and I explain DH had to leave work didnt know if he would be able to, I'm a student mid with appts for coc's all the time, 2 kids that aren't alway at kindy etc etc and couldn't I please just go and if they could still get me right in get my referral, sonographer said fine but we'll need u in the room in ten mins cause she wanted to get home to her kids.
So I go back to dr's thinking I knew I should have just gone in the first place, I was waiting to get in while DH stayed at the scan place, next thing a walk in comes in asking could she get a scan receptionist explains they r just waiting a few mins on a lady who's trying to get a referral and so they could tell her in a couple of mins but the sonographer says no don't worry just cancel her appt. I'll do this one so DH got up and walked out shaking his head. and they come through explaining it was a time thing, well I still had minutes left to get back in the room.
So I called another scan place I knew of to see just in case there was any chance I could get in and she said not that day but she could "tomorrow" this word was repeated over and over see you tomorrow I repeated it back to her etc. Anyway despite being previously patient I couldnt wait another minute to find out the gender of our babies and so got onto precious previews (one of the entertainment 3d scan places) and got in there went over and was told the gender of each of our twins.
Next day Phil couldn't leave work again so organise my mum to come to help with the boys drove 45mins to ge tto the scan place for my morph scan only to be told my appt was booked the next day...not happy a 2nd day in a row, you wouldn't read about it.....well not unless ur reading this!!
So went back yesterday and finally got in for my morph scan but was told a different gender than monday for one of the babies, called DH and we got into precious previews again and had the same woman and she said it was hard to tell cause of the position of the baby and it would look like one gender and then the other and she ended up thinking the same as what we had been told at the morph scan we didnt end up getting charged for this second scan and we have another scan next tues (which we're not being charged for) to confirm for sure cause she's still not 100% but I think thats just cause we had the confusion etc and they're wanting to be nice and have a happy customer maybe??
Idon't know but its killing me not know and I mean KILLING me we are keeping the gender of both babies a secret which is y I'm not saying what they are etc and I thought the first scan we did get a good image of the sex we were told that day but I don't know, I have a video of it and would be forever greatful if there are any sonographers on here...or if any of u know a bb member that is one and could point me in the right direction so they could scrutinize the video
I remember rocking up to an u/s and being told that i couldn't have it because Melbourne didn't give me a referral. My old OB in north vic (where I was getting the scan) was away. Melbourne weren't answering the phone.
I sat there and bawled.

Thanks so much Charlotte, I think the worst bit was the customer service, no understnading that a couple looks forward to the morphology scan, it had been booked weeks before, I know I forgot the referral but far out they were rude
Sorry can't help with the gender, you might just have to wait that one out, sometimes they just can't guarentee 100% esp with twins, there is less room for them to move arounds and 'expose' their bits lol.
I'm shocked your Drs rooms wouldn't just fax a referral across to the US place and made you get an appt- that is just ridiculous, the Dr had obviously written you up a referral previously. Where I used to work people always forgot their referrals and rang from the US place, we would just write one up and get the Dr to sign it and fax it across, they should have still let you have the appt, esp cos it was an important one to look at the anatomy.
If your Dr has a US in his/her rooms, you will no doubt be able to see the sex further on in your pregnancy so don't stress- at least there was no problems found at the scan! Good luck with your twins
I was always told you can never be 100% sure of the sex until the baby is out. Sounds like a bit of an ordeal for you though sorry you've had such a rough time x x x x
i can have a look if you want... i am not a sonogropher but i have had a lot of scan and know what im looking for ! ( when i was pregnant with DD the guy doing scans down here would not tell you so i look at scan picture for hours on end so i could tell myself. ) and then with DS3 i had lots of scans 3D and normal.
I was told twice that Lady P was a girl then went for a late scan and was told she was a boy!!
I went back to precious previews (at Loganholme) and they were so understanding and brilliant with me. I was on the table for at least an hour because the little witch wouldnt co operate but they were 100% without giving me that guarantee (legally not allowed too) that she was a girl and the other guy had stuffed up.
They didnt charge me either and even rung me after my due date to make sure she was infact a girl and that I was alright.
I completely understand how frustrating and upsetting it can be to be told one thing and then another and too be honest I still never quite believed it anyway until she was here and I could see for myself.
I hope you get a clear answer either way and soon and that you are able to enjoy the rest of your pregnancy.
Jas, how frustrating!! I understand your frustration on wanted to know the sex, thats why we found a 3D place that would take us before the morph scan.

oh wow Jas, what a pain, i text u to se how ur scan went.
Can u ask the hospital to do one? David is excellent, and he lets hubby and kids come in too, hes quite patient with young kids being in there, and he has never gotten any gender guesses wrong with any of my babies.
Hope u can get some definate answers soon, i can understand ur need to know and frustration!
How frustrating Jas. My sonographer wasn't going to tell me our babies gender but I saw a glance and a little girl was very clear to me, I asked and was right. I remember when Ahurni showed her 12wk U/S picture of Hayley I could see clearly that she was a girl. So if you want me to confirm a girl I can getting lotsa girly experience!
Have a good look at the genitals area in the ultrasound and:
For a female baby: You will see like a dark (black) tube that goes from the outside to the inside of the baby which is the vagina, that usually babies have it full of fluid that is why it looks dark in the ultrasound.
For a male baby: You will see some protuberant (white)tissue in the genital area, which is its male genitals
