I have a 1 year old who seems to be dropping a nap. Before he turned 1 he was taking 2 naps of around 1-1.5 hours each, at around 10am and 3pm. Since he turned 1 he has been staying awake later in the morning, going to sleep around 11-11:39am and not waking up til 2-2:30pm. That ties him over til his bedtime at around 7pm.
Is this normal? I've hears horror stories about kids dropping naps and being absolute terrors at witching hour. My DS has just slipped into this new routine no problems!
Thanks!

My DS4 is 17mths (14mths corrected) and he is just starting to drop a day sleep.
He is going down a little later and will sleep for 2 hrs in the middle of the day...I am finding he is a little grumpy around dinner time but then is happy to go to bed 6.30 - 7pm (very similar times to your little man).
It takes them a little time for their body's to adjust but it is normal.
Sounds great! I was kind of relieved when my girls dropped down to one big sleep a day. It made it easier to plan the day.
If your DS has slipped into it with no problems - fantastic! Congrats. LOL!
My 15 month old has just done this recently too. Gone from 2 x 1.5hr naps at roughly 10am and 2pm, to now he has up to 3 hours at about 11:30am. I am loving the longer nap!
Lucky for you that your DS has settled into the new routine so quickly! My DS does tend to get a bit antsy towards 5pm, needing more attention etc until we've done the dinner/shower/bottle/bed routine. So yes, sounds like a normal change to me
Awesome! Thanks guys. I was wondering cos he's still so young I wouldn't have expected the nap drop for a couple more months but he's handling it like a champ.
Only prob is that he's at daycare 4 days a week and at home he has a really dark room so when I put him down for his nap the room is pitch black. At kindy he's in a room with other babies with a light on so his naps haven't been as long. Ah well! He's a pretty good sleeper for the most part

Hi,
My twin boys who are 14 months are in the process of dropping to one sleep. I think I may have been a bit late in realising this. I have had a week of disrupted daytime sleeps but they now seem to be getting the hang of it. Today they had 2.5 hrs and woke up happy and talking, instead of grumpy.
I have been putting them to bed a bit earlier at night to help them catch up on lost sleep???? Not sure this works but they seem to be sleeping well at night and for longer!!!!
I guess I am jelous that your child has transitioned so well into the new routine and how do I know they are ready for one sleep and it's not me thinking they need just one sleep????
