    Headaches in 14mo?

    I think DS gets headaches...

....he often holds his head/ear or taps it and yesterday and this morning has been pointing to it and then giving a kind of moan and grimace. When I asked him if his head hurt, he nodded. I asked where and he pointed, so I gave it a kiss. Then he pointed a bit to the side of that, another kiss, etc etc. I thought it could be a game, but he wasn't smiling, just grimacing. This morning he was pointing, holding and grimacing a lot and I ended up giving him Panadol, which he took happily (normally he puts up a bit of a fuss). Remember, he's only 14mo, so the whole communication thing is a bit hit and miss!

He's had his ears checked at the doc a couple of months ago when he was pointing/holding them, so I don't think they're the problem (though he is getting over a cold). DH suffers quite badly with headaches, so it could be genetic.

Does it sound like a headache? And if so, how can I treat it? I'd prefer not to just dose him up on Panadol. TIA

Making sure he gets enough water, sleep and fresh air will help. Also making sure he is getting a well balanced diet.

Are you sure its headaches or could it be teething??

The water is an issue, he doesn't seem too interested atm, but I offer it constantly and have it right near him so he can get it if he needs too. Have been thinking of trying some soup as we are avoiding milk too because of his cold. Maybe the lack of water is the cause....
He had 'the drools' for almost two weeks before his cold, but no sign of teeth yet. Teeth don't seem to bother him too much, and his sleep is still good (apart from a bit of coughing from the cold). I don't think it's teething...

If he has had a cold it could be an ear ache? Is he holding his head near his ears? Even though he has had them checked lately they may still be infected after a cold, tends to be a secondary infection after a cold. Also if he really won't drink much water maybe try watering his milk right now - like 1/4 milk and the rest water. We do this with J when he isn't well and seems to work. Good luck -hope he is ok soon. xoxo

Sinus can also give you a headache, so maybe it is his sinus, or next guess would be ears? It's so hard to know isn't it Hope he's back on track soon!

I was going to suggest if he has a cold it could be sinus related, i'd maybe take him back to the GP and just ask for a general check-up.
It is hard when they can't tell you whats wrong, i suffer from headaches and mine hurt behind my eyes and the side of my head.
Lots of water and fresh air really are the best thing for headaches if you can get it into him, what about an icypole?
