    Joining the ranks...

...of the SAHM distance ed part-time students!
Somewhat earlier than expected - I sent in an application well after the extended acceptance date for applications for midyear, expecting to be considered for Sem 1 start next year and lo and behold - I received an offer a week before this Semester begins, to begin study NOW!
So I am a little on the back foot - have ordered my textbooks today, enrolled in two subjects yesterday, accepted the offer the day before, and session begins on the 12th!!

I'll be doing a Bachelor of General Studies (Science) for 18 months, with a view to improving my GPA so I can apply to upgrade to UQ Midwifery in 2013. Apparently if I've done a year of Bachelor Level more than 5 years after my previous (horrendous) study then they discount the original study in calculation of entry rank.

So I just need to do awesomely in this course now that I am older and wiser!
I'm doing Human Bioscience and Sociology in Health this semester

I do have a residential school for four days in Bathurst, NSW next month (YIKES) but I think my FDCarer may be able to help out a bit more so I can leave DS with DP. I'm guessing that will mean an end to our BFing... but we'll see!! Will be far easier than trying to take him with me and find suitable daycare for four days in a place I've never even visited!

Sorry for the long post - anyhow, I'm really excited. And petrified. Did I mention petrified?

I just hope I do better than my last attempts at tertiary study! On-campus student life was the my kryptonite in my youth so I figure now I'm doing it older and by distance it should be better!

Shades that is really exciting!! One suggestion though - check out the Uni at Bathurst (CSU?) and see if they offer childcare. I'm at UNE at Armidale and they offer on campus childcare while Res schools are on. So you may be able to take your little one with you.

Grrr I just wrote a long post and then lost it... Pffft!!

Um yeah, we had a Queer Lounge... our motto was "Degree...? What degree??"

I'm at CSU yep. Bathurst's helpful suggestion re: childcare is to "search TrueLocal". They won't even let me have him room-in with me in a room in Halls, which Wagga allows, instead they refer 'families' to a motel on campus which charges an extra $20 or so a night (and $12 a night for extra people?), which is a fair amount on a four night stay.
I'm really thinking I should leave him home with DP. We'll trial a couple of overnights, see how he goes. He goes 12 or more hours without BFing so I doubt it's a staple of his nutrition at this point and if my milk's not gone by now, I'm sure 4 days with some casual expressing won't hurt too much. It's mostly a comfort thing for him anyway I reckon. He happily drinks cow's milk from a cup, and it might be good for him and DP to bond over how much they miss me

Far out! They aren't very friendly towards parents are they? As good as UNE is, they wont let you have kids on campus either. I hope it works out for you and he's happy to stay with your DP. I'm loving the study, it's very rewarding. I'm sure you'll do just fine this time - I know I certainly feel a lot more grounded and prepared for study than what I was as a teen.

So I'm now on a leave of absence. Considering that I'm currently homeless and in a women's refuge, my access to Internet is a little spotty and time and inclination to study is pretty much non-existent.
Thanks for the support while it lasted.

Shades, sorry to hear you are going through a tough patch at the mement.

Just put your study plans on hold for the moment and please try and pick them up when you get sorted and in a new place
