What could be going on with DS1 (3) - could it be reflux? Any similar experiences?

DS1 (3y 4m) has just asked to go to bed (4.45pm). We went through his usual routine and he's now sound asleep at 5.20pm. Weird. Probably why I think he is sick, and I'm not sure if I'm joking or not.

Mainly I need help with interpreting his behaviour in the past 24 hours, and to see if I'm missing something obvious that I should be concerned about ...

DS1 woke with a high temp about 10pm last night. He actually woke after a nightmare and was really howling. I initially thought he was hot because he was crying so hard. Once he calmed, he seemed fine. Just hot. I gave him some Nurafen but he didn't go back to sleep till after 11pm. But he seemed perfectly fine other than the temp.

While he was up, I noticed he was making a gastric/croaking kind of sound. No idea really how to describe it, but when he was breathing or talking you could hear croaky noises coming from lower throat (or somewhere like that). And I don't mean croaky in terms of he was losing his voice - it was like he needed to burp, but couldn't/wasn't. It's happened to me very occasionally after I eat something spicy or drink something fizzy. DH also can make that "croaky" noise after lots of beer.

The croak didn't worry him last night, and I didn't think it was connected with the temp. DS1 has been ok today - no sign of a cold, ear infection etc. He did have a big vomit earlier today after a bit of rough and tumble with DH, but that seemed to be caused by him coughing (possible he swallowed saliva the wrong way or something), which led to him gagging which led to a spew. He's not a spewer by nature, and he didn't complain of feeling sick beforehand. I tend to think the spew was "coincidence".

DS1 said a couple of times about an hour ago that he has a "sore belly" but his belly is soft to touch, he's not constipated and if it IS sore, it didn't slow him down any in his play earlier today. I've found DS1 will complain of a sore belly when he thinks he's missing out on attention (and i've had it checked out at the dr a couple of times, with nothing found).

Anyway, just before he asked to go to bed (... I'm still reeling from that!) I noticed that the gastric/croaky noise was back.

Does anyone know if the noise I'm hearing is reflux? He's barely eaten anything today - obviously his appetite isn't good, but then that's not totally unusual either as he's a picky eater.

Am I missing an obvious link between a high temp, possible reflux (?) condition and possible sore tummy. If he'd been a sad sack today, then I would have called on the dr, but he's been fine otherwise.

I'll keep a check on him tonight, and if I'm worried I'll take him to the dr. After all the drs visits this year, I must nearly be at the threshold

im no expert on reflux so i cant comment, but maybe he has a mild case of gastro, it would explain the temp and vomit (DD2 did a random vomit this arvo too)
ask him in the morning if he ever gets a funny taste in his mouth

Cheers gals. He's been sound asleep since just after 5pm. Hopefully he doesn't decide to rise at 5am!

Thanks for the tip Olive, I'll do that. Is a funny taste indicative of reflux?
