DD fell the other day and hit the side of her head near her eye. It has resulted in a gash down the side of her eye and her eye lid and under her eye swelled up. The swelling has gone down but it has dark bruising.
Now for the help part. Everyone is guilting me because I didn't take her to the doctors to check her sight was ok. I have been watching her. Her pupils are equal and they react to light. If I cover the uninjured eye she can see and is able to follow moving finger. She hasn't been complaining of any pain and is happy in herself.
If she's fine then I probably wouldn't take her to the docs either. If anything (and depending on how old she is) you could take her to the optician for an annual eye test just to make sure but from what you describe I wouldn't have taken her to the GP.
Then she is old enough for an eye exam from an optician. They generally use drops which dilate the pupils and watch for response at this age. I started taking my kids to the optician at around 3 years as both my hubby and I are very short sighted. I wouldn't necessarily take her whilst she is still bruised, but once she is healed up then it won't hurt to take her and medicare will cover the cost if you go somewhere like Specsavers.
