I've seen so many videos lately of waterbirth and I just want to try it sooo badly!!
(Not pg yet lol!!)
I'm not sure that my hospital does waterbirth, but thats beside the point, lol
Anyone had a VBAC waterbirth??
My c/s with DD was because she was in breech. Also, because of her severe IUGR they didn't want to put the strain of her by delivering breech. She also had her bowels outside her body, but most bubs like that are born naturally so that wasn't a major factor in the c/s.
My OB is extremely pro-VBAC. He's a true God-send. I was gutted when I had to have my care in Melbourne after DD's gastroschisis (bowels on the outside) was discoverd at my 20 week scan.
I know of a few women who have done it during homebirths. I think you'd find that despite your Ob being supportive, that due to the nature of hospital protocols, having a VBAC waterbirth may be difficult. Have you considered a homebirth at all? It might be the best bet to actually get what you want.
It's very possible, and I know of many people who have done it (albeit in the UK). You would need a very pro VBAC OB, or better still a midwife, to support you though or you might be facing a battle the whole way.
Trill -- I'm not keen on a homebirth, with my closest maternity being an hour and a half away, I'd like to be there.
Trav -- My OB is very pro VBAC. There's only 3 OBs in the city and my OB is one of 2 that can do c/s. One OB is for complicated pregnancy only, and my OB is pretty hard to get into but seeings as how I'm a previous patient I'll have him again thank goodness.
So, yep. Checklist -- Pro-VBAC OB , Check. Pregnancy -- Not check. lol.
I would have been allowed to have one (even with my VBA2C) but the birth centre only had a bath at the time, not their birth pool (it was with someone else) and I found I preferred to labour on land at the time.
However, if I was going to go again (which I'm NOT!!) I would go the birth pool cos I would really like to experience that.
I had my VBAC at home though because I felt I couldn't trust the hospital environment to get the best chance of a VBAC.
ETA: and hospital rules and protocols would have had me strapped to a monitor and would not have allowed me to have a water birth. I really wanted to avoid rules that did not make sense to me according to my research so I organised an excellent midwife team and stayed home.

I'm having a VBAC water birth, because I've chosen a home birth. The hospital wouldn't allow it, monitoring and a cannula were their requirements, before I even walked in the door. Neither of which I felt were particularly conducive to a VBAC.
I may have been able to go to a birth centre, but didn't explore that option once we found an excellent m/w to come to us.
Mercy birth centre allows labouring in water, but you have to get out to birth your bub. They have tightened their restrictions again lately on who is 'allowed' to go there, and i don't think they allow those going for a VBAC.
