teasing hair?

when I went to a wedding my hair was upstyled, and the stylist used a teasing brush. I've now bought one but can't figure out how to get the height?

Back comb through med to small sections of hair. Hair spray can help to, with my hair things I find a quick search of YouTube helps greatly, nothing like "seeing" it for yourself.
