    Question Probiotics

DD is currently on some antibiotics to deal with some fluid behind her ear. She had a perforated ear drum and 1 lot of antibiotics and while the ear drum healed, there was still some fluid so now she is on her second course. I've been using Inner Health Plus Kids probiotic and just mixing it with her water in the mornings and had no dramas. Today though, I was in Woolies and saw the yakult and wondered whether that would be okay to give DD. I like it for a couple of reasons, firstly because it's just something we could easily give her at bfast without having to worry about mixing it with anything but also, I think it might work out a bit cheaper?

Anyone else doing this? Ta in advance

Normal yoghurt contains most of the "probiotic" stuff but in lower concentrations - I'd be pushing yoghurt for breakfast instead, it's a lot cheaper.

Thanks TFB. She already eats heaps of yoghurt, I was just wanting it as an additional. She's had a cold since February so I'm trying anything to boost her immune system

I'm on my pod so can't see how old your dd is, but we use totally natural chewable probiotics from chemist warehouse. The seem to help with excema too

I had a neverending cold for the first 6ish years of my life: turned out it was a dairy intolerance. Normal colds don't last more than a couple of weeks, tops. Going to goat helped DS's eczema too. I'd rather buy goat milk for my family than add in probiotics which can affect the normal gut flora.

Should be fine (ds was under 2) but make sure she's not allergic to strawberries first

Interesting about the eczema thing.....I've got a friend who's DD suffers from this so will pass that tip on - thanks! Yeah, DD has had a cold for sooo long. GP says it's not the same cold, she just keeps catching one after the other. She's been at kindy 3 days a week but we've just cut back to 2 days so hopefully it eases up. However, and I really don't want to tempt fate - DH and I were just saying today that we think her runny nose is finally getting better. Fingers crossed!!

Not sure how Yakult would be for that age - you could call the company and ask?
I use a baby biotic - its one that you need to get from a naturaopath but it's awesome. it isnt cheap though.
i am on a mission to boost the immunity of my boys (esp DS2 at the moment) so I also have another immune booster (basically zinc vit c and vit b) - i mix them both up with some water and give it as a 'magic potion'. they are loving it and i think it is helping. i'll keep it up for winter - we have all been so sick and i want to avoid as much as poss.
i have also used brauers recovery tonic - that is pretty good (different stuff) and would be ok at her age (as well as the probiotics etc)

I got Bioceuticals Baby Biotic, from a local online dietician. Just adding to the thread. Apparently it is good for colic, but there's no proof it helps with eczema etc. I am just using it as he is quite windy. Since I started using it, he's been pooing more. It was $30 but by the time I add up the cost of Infacol, Infant's friend, there's not much difference in the cost.

I was on antibiotics for quite a prolonged period, from having the caesar and then I had a bladder infection.
