    Altars?

I am debating setting up an Alter in my bedroom. I have decided since DH does not sleep in the room with me (partially due to my preggy freight train snoring and partly because of DD night waking) I might set up a semi alter with a Rock Salt Lamp and some nice crystals and oil burner.

I really am just after a place that I can lay in bed and relax and unwind after a long day more so than anything else.

Are they ok to set up in bedrooms? I really have no other spot in in the house and I think if I set up my cards etc DH would feel extremely uncomfortable so it needs to be subtle as well ITMS.

Any advice or info is very welcomed.

Nae, I'm so sorry I missed this thread. Yes I think it's ok to set an altar up anywhere that you can carve out the space to ensure it's respected, if you know what I mean? At one stage I had one set up in a drawer in the bedroom, I could pull the drawer out when I was alone but it was concealed when other family members - who may not understand the signficance - were around. Don't underestimate the potential for it to attract curious little fingers, esp the crystals and cards. So I keep a set of pretty affirmation cards and some chakra crystals that DD is allowed to play with, seperate the crystals and cards that I work with. HTH. xxx

Ooh, I like the concept of a drawer. I am in a similar situation, want to set up an altar, but don't really have a private area.

Check out the blog/website of Rock Paper Scissors (Gaia Devine). She recently set up an altar / sacred space and it might give you some ideas. It took her a while to find the right place/spot for her altar.

    I'd say go for it.

I'm in the process of re-setting up altars around my place (plus hunting for the one that I NEED to have).

I've got candles all over the place, which aren't really part of altars even though people think they are. I've just moved all my furniture around to fix the energies in this place and now have to pick the right spots for various altars.

I'm in the process of setting up an alter but also unsure of where. With both kids I had a birth alter during pg. With dd it was in the bedroom, but with ds it was in the lounge (but I felt a bit exposed when visitors started reading my affirmations!!).

I am trying to buy some statues of mother and child and some crystals to put on it. I also want to burn incense and make seasonal offerings...so far the matle is still the best place. I wonder what visitors will think about my offerings to mother god?

set it up where ever it makes you feel comfortable and can be undisturbed. I have one that is currently in the loungeroom, but wont be there much longer and will be put somewhere safer
I also have my cards and rune stones in my glory box. it is closed and (was until recently) locked (i lost the key =P and had to break the lock to get into it..) but they are safe, and i just have to open the lid to see them all spread out etc..

The thing I'm tracking down for mine is a cabinet type thing, small enough to sit on a cupboard, with doors to open up for my voodoo style altar. The urge for this type of altar came to me during my retreat last week. Voodoo altars are ancestor altars and it was reinforced to me during my healing that I needed to revere my ancestral linkages.

I actually noticed the other day that our mantel piece looks a lot like an altar with all the things that I have put there. I have collected some interesting items over the years that are perfect.

I have the urge to make my own candles. Might buy some candle making supplies with my next pay.

Astrid - I've got shelves around the place that have become defacto altars, they've just evolved over time into what they are now.

They will probably be too busy soaking up the nurturing vibe that is created when you honour the goddess to notice! LOL Anyway people have plenty of statue-looking things in their houses as it is.
