Baby gate to enclose a 1.75metre opening, is it possible?

    Hi everyone,

As the topic states I'm wanting a baby gate or something similar that I can use to cover the opening to our lounge room. Is this possible? What do you have? I don't want a playpen.
    Thanks

I think it is. You can get the normal gates and then you can buy a few extentions for them. Could be quite an expensive exercise though..

We got an extra wide/extra tall gate that came with a couple of extensions and it works well. It was 40% off at Target last year (I suppose not many people buy them!) so cheaper than a normal gate.

You can buy wooden ones, they are cheaper but the only problem is they don't open & you have to constantly step over them.

I bought a big wooden playpen with a gate that opens out flat. we use this on the verandah (huge opening) it works really well. I think Ii paid about $140 on ebay

I am using an old door turned on its long side which we either step over or slide open (it slides behind a couch.) It is too heavy for my 3 year old to open and just light enough for me to slide with my DD2 in my arms so is working well.

I have an extra wide and tall Safety First one. YOu can buy extensions for it that fit to the sides and it still has the gate in the middle. I only needed the slim extensions but I do know they uses to sell 60cm ones, so one on either side of the gate should make the span.

Yup...we have one across a 2.5 metre space...is called the babydan elongate...you have to calculate how many sections you need to buy plus the main section with the gate....was not cheap but has been up three years now (we originally bought it so our puppy couln't pee on the carpet in the lounge area) and it works a treat. We also have the elongate across the rumpus room opening which is about 1.7ish so deifnitely doable...we got ours from baby bunting.
