I'm on the MOVE!!!! to Canberra (well Queanbeyan)

Thank Goodness... It's finally happening... accepting quote tomorrow (already done it verbally) for our house to be packed up and moved out... they are coming Monday (ARGH!), cleaning being done on Tuesday, fingers crossed carpets are being done Wednesday... then flights are booked for the 16th but may be moving them forward to the 12th / 13th... but anyway the reason for this post is to gain information from the lovely ladies down that way to help me settle in faster...

I'm going to assistance with a bit of information...

New GP ~ don't think mine will make the move with me

Ideas for things to do with the kids (the 3 year old really) until I can get him into a daycare centre ~ would love a small centre that has a range of ages in one area rather than different ages in difference rooms

Markets? are there farmers markets, craft markets etc that I should know about

Any tips for running a ducted heating / cooling system?

What's information do you think I'll find handy about living in this new town...

YAY!!!!

I can recommend a fabulous doctor in QBN - Dr Ross Hendry (he is a GP and an ob). I think he is great, very friendly and easy to talk to.

Lots of things to do for young kids. Playgroups, organised groups, sports, activities, generall catch ups with other BB members.

Lots of markets: old bus depot markets (every sunday), Hall markets (every 3rd? sunday of the month), Tugg markets, woden markets, etc. Also fresh food markets at Belconnen and at Fyshwick (although these are really permanent shops rather then market stalls).

There are a group of us BB members who meet up semi regularly. There is a thread on BB here - which we try to keep reasonably updated: but if you want to meet up with us, feel free to add myself or one of the other girls on fb, or pm us and we will make sure we keep you updated with our plans.

Thanks Misty, is Dr Ross Hendry part of a medical centre or solo? How do I find him is he a bulk billed doctor? Doesn't matter much just would like to know

Dr Ross Hendry is part of a medical centre, but I cann't remember the name of it at the moment - Crawford street practice or some such. If you google his name you will find some infor on him and some of his colleagues. I am not sure if they do bulk billing or not - I think they possibly do for people with pension cards and health care cards. Most GP's around canberra / QBN won't offer bulk billing generally, unless you have a health care card or pension card: I only know of one practice that does bulk billing for everyone - and they are located out in Belconnen and Charnwood (about 40min drive from QBN).
