    getting fluids into sick bub....

So some of u may have seen my thread the other day about DD and her "exciting" weekend...

she has tonsilitis which i know from experience is quite painful poor chicken

    anyways she is fighting fluids.....

im managing to get max of 70ml into her each feed, usually takes 40-50 straight up and then 20-30ml after her solids...

water- she will drink if its out of a glass or my drink bottle which is cool, even if i have to keep washing my drink bottle every 2-3 hrs

am just after any tips on getting more fluids into her, it just doesnt seem like she is getting enough....

ive taken her to the gp for her follow up, on the hospitals advice, and they said she isnt dehydrated, made out i was a panic artist for thinking she could get dehydrated "in this climate" as the dr put it so they were no help....

so yeah hit me with any tips u have...

oh and a syringe is out of the question becasue she has them well figured out from all the anti-bs and panadol etc

will she suck on a wet flannel?? I've done this with DS before.... oh, and he loves drinking out of our drink bottles, so we just leave one around for him now If that's working, I'd go with it.

does she still have wet nappies?

Sounds like she is getting enough to stop her from getting dehydrated, so I would just keep doing what you're doing... If you are worried about dehydration, put a folded up tissue in her nappy so you will know for sure if she has had a wee or not - 8 hrs without a wee is classed as dehydration.

Try offering the smaller amounts more often.
If she normally feeds every four hours offer her the smaller amount every two hours.
You sound like you are doing a great job with her, it is so hard when our little ones are sick

What about watery foods or ice blocks made with juice or frozen bits of fruit? It would soothe her throat a little and she would probably like that! Watermelon, oranges, soups....

I was going to suggest if your worried try a hydrolite icypole, being younger you could prob get away with offering half of one every now and then?

I was going to suggest ice blocks too. Jelly is the other thing that comes to mind for older kids, I don't know about it for a baby but if you are feeling desperate ... jelly is great on sore throats.

I really hope she starts getting better soon. Are you getting much rest yourself?

Yoghurt is her FAVE so I'm shoving it in at every meal!!

Yep getting rest she is doing her usual 12-13 hrs a night and a good 3hrs during the day.

Tonight she finally took 100ml bottle in one hit so that was exciting!!
Fnally she seems a lot better!
The afternoon nap seems to have been the turning point!

Glad to hear that you are all getting enough rest. It's gotta help

Also glad that things are improving. Hope she's on the up and up from here.
