As the title says, I need some tips from you wonderful mummies in Northern Queensland
We are going to QLD for a holiday in 3 weeks time. We've got 2 nights in Cairns, 4 nights in Mission Beach and 4 nights at Hayman Island. I'm very excited I must say! I've just bought a new summer wardrobe for DD as she's turning 2 while we're away and most of her summer clothes from last season are too small. Bummer but yay for new, super cute clothes!
The temperature guide for both destinations looks pretty lovely but I'd really like some advice on clothing for DD. Can you guys tell me what sort of clothes your LOs are wearing now and what they are likely to be wearing in a few weeks time? Also, what are they wearing to bed and what sort of bedding are you using (sheets? blankets?)? If you use sleeping bags (we use bags), what's the TOG rating?
Shorts and tshirts. At night its been changing between a slightly bit chilly (to us anyway lol) and a bit humid. My kids dont sleep with a top sheet, they sleep with their crochet blankets. Sometimes I put them in PJs, lightweight and long pants/short sleeve atm but mostly they prefer to just go to bed in a nappy/pull up. If you were to use a sleep bag I would go with a summer one (cant remember the TOG value). Ive been sleeping with a lightweight blanket over sheet, and PJs.
Your coming at a great time of year, the weather has been awesome (25-27deg, sunshine!).
Yeah its definitely shorts and t-shirt weather during the day, but the night before last it was quite chilly and got down to 11 degrees here.
So I would still be bringing something for the chilly nights and mornings for the kids.
Sleeping bags just in general for the area, well, I used to recommend people always have a +6 degree bag because no matter where you go, they're usually the most versatile, but probably a +10 for this time of year would be fine. By adding a cotton or silk liner you can get an extra 5 degrees of warmth out of the bag, and if you want to be naughty and sleep in the all together, you can get another 1-2 degrees on top of that. We just have a summer doonah, no top sheet, and sleep in underwear - but we also have the fan on year round so perhaps we aren't the most normal people to be taking cues from lol.
We first arrived up here this time last year and its a bit warmer than then, so hopefully it stays that way! We're heading for a top of 28 today
I would also be suggesting to bring a raincoat/umbrella/slicker just in case too - with the rain coming into the warmer months up this way you just never know! Its also been kind of windy every now and then and the wind has had some bite to it, but I don't know if thats been the case in Cairns.

Thanks girls, that's really helpful! I think DD's new summer wardrobe will be perfect then
With regards to the sleeping bags, DD has 2.5, 1.0 and 0.5 TOG bags. We generally use the 1.0 bags from late spring, summer nights and early autumn. The 0.5 tog is really thin, like a sheet, and I only use that on the super hot days. So I think I'll just take her 1.0 and 0.5 bags.
So the nights are pretty mild then? DD may just need a long sleeved onesie and a light bag? Or even short sleeved onesies?
