JUST DO IT! THEY ARE AMAAAAAAAZING! nothing else compares!
I've had mine 3 years, never skipped a beat, heats up in seconds, perfect everytime![]()
I straighten my hair everyday and until now, I have used hair straighteners that are around the $150 mark but I find I am having to replace them every two years because they stop heating up as much, the coating wears of the plates and they stop being as great as they were in the first six months I had them.
So I am assuming GHD's last longer ... how long have you had yours? Have often do you use it? Have you had any issues with it? Anything else I should know?

Yep its been about 3 years for me too and i LOVE it!!! It makes my hair so beautiful and straightens without damaging my hair. I will cry the day it stops working! But it really has been the best $300 i have ever spent.
OMG, couldn't live without mine!! I use them 5-6 days a week! I've had them for about 6 or 7 years and they're still going strong! I did recently upgrade to the Cloud 9 straighteners though as my hair dresser convinced me I needed the 'new technology', lol. Cloud 9 are also $300 and made by the original designers of GHDs, they just have some new technology to make them even better than GHDs. They are amazing! Google them for more info.
So, if you were to buy new, I'd get Cloud 9 if you can find them in your area as they're only selling them at selected salons at this stage. If you want some GHDs, I'd be happy to sell my old ones to you cheap as they're just sitting there doing nothing and there is nothing wrong with them! Let me know if you're keen![]()
I love my ghd the only thing that I don't like is there's no temperature control. So as always use a heat protectant in your hair to protect itand stop it from whisping at the ends...
Shop around. The gift packs are great. I got my limited edition ghd in a boxed set including hair dryer for travel and a cute little storage bag which is heat resistant![]()
I've had mine a little over 2 years and still going strong.

Taurean - I might take you up on that though the cloud 9 is sound pretty good too so I'll check those out before I decide anything. Which ones do you have? How much would you be asking for them? You can PM if you like
BBB - Your comment about your sister's straightener reminded me, do GHDs have long cords? I bought one with a shorter cord once and it got caught on the handles of my vanity unit and the hot bit slipped into my hand ... ouch! Now I like really long cords on them. The one I have at the moment I can stand in the middle of my bathroom - well away from the vanity to straighten my hair.
LynsDan - I always use protection![]()
i have a diva hair straightener, is exactly the same as a ghd and cheaper.. my bestie is a hair dresser and even she said they work just as well, she actually got it for me![]()
ive had mine for about 8 years....seriously!!! and they still work good as knew! and they do work better than any other. DO IT!!!!!
I love my GHD!
I wouldn't recommend it though if you have fine hair- as a PP said- it has no temp control.
The first one GHD I bought was faulty, they replaced it with a new one, no questions asked.
I've also heard that cloud 9 are excellent :-)
Beware of fake GHD's.
if you look around online you can get some GHD hair straighteners really cheap with the exchange being so good. last year my sister picked up a GHD + travel kit (GHD, travel Hair Dryer, clips and heat resistant mat) for about $150.00 AUD!!!! and it is the real deal.
Love, love, love, love mine! And yes they do have a pretty long cord (always bugs me when I'm winding it up cos it just goes on for ages and ages).
I have fine hair and I love my GHD - mine is very slimline and does my hair in seconds! I have had it 3 years and couldn't live without it - it hasn't skipped a beat! I also got it second hand from a friend who had used it only a couple of times.
I got a Cloud Nine - from the same designers as GHD but actually nicer on my hair than a GHD has ever been. I like the fact you can get fat ones and thin ones (as in the width), I went the thin one as I have better control. I straightened my hair on Saturday and it is only now (ok it needed it yesterday but I went to the gym after work & going today) needing a "top up" straighten which I will do before the weekend.
I'm actually waiting to chat to my hairdresser over coffee to discuss Aveda's new straightening technology coz I'm sick of straightening my hair!!!!!
The Cloud 9's have a temp control switch![]()
Cloud nine is actually produced where the original GHD was which is korea whereas now GHD is made in china and they loose their heat after a while and break are a poorer quality! (I have had my new ghd replaced 3 times in 12 months) I do have a black one here thats been going strong still but I'd go cloud 9 all the way! never thought I'd ever say that in my hairdressing life but cloud 9 is the old GHD = better... I'm selling my GHD's (used) for $150 cause I prefer the cloud 9 now!
Oooh I use mine for special occasions and have had mine for about 5 years. Absolutley a dream as I have really unruly curly hair. I find if you get the designed hair products, it works even better, though abit expensive but depending on your hair type you can get cheaper products too. Happy straightening![]()
I've had mine for 7 years, use it every day and it's as good as the day I bought it. Enough said![]()
