Breadmaker - useless appliance or love it? does it save you money?

    Hi,

I have seen target have breadmaker on sale this thurs for $69. Is that a reasonable price?

Also, do you love yours? or does it sit in the cupboard unused?

Does it save you any money on buying bread?

    Does the bread taste nicer?

Does it take alot of prep time?

    Thanks!!

Nothing is better then a loaf of bread that you have made yourself..
We have only just started buying the 5kg of bread flour, and ive made rolls or a loaf every week since. Straight out of the oven with butter.. YUM YUM YUM!!
    I love it! <3

That's cheap - but beware, sometimes you get what you pay for

I love mine. Use it once or twice a week.

Does not save me money, but the bread is great. It last as long as fresh bread from the bakery - i.e. not long. But we make a small loaf and eat it that day usually.

Prep is easy peasy. And it's easy peasy to make dough and use it for pizza bases, or special buns in the oven etc.

I've used mine endlessly in the last few months. We've bought a loaf of bread from the supermarket in that time and actually noticed it to be dense and tasteless. I generally make a small loaf twice a week, its enough to get us by (we're not huge bread eaters - maybe four slices a day for sandwiches, and that's not every day), but we worked out it was a lot cheaper to make it than buy it.

I'd be wary of a cheap machine though - maybe google the brand and get some reviews. Good luck!

Ours has stints in use and then long periods in the cupboard lol!

My last attempt at a loaf the other day was a dismal epic failure as the (sour)dough just grew and grew and welded itself to the underside of the lid and then it wasn't fully cooked but had a giant crater hole in the middle...........

I'm still trying to get the congealed half cooked stubborn stuff off the inside of the lid

They can take a while to get used to IME but I'm not giving up!!

We love our bread maker and use it just about everyday - we are a big bread family. We have a panasonic one and it's great. The kids go crazy when they hear the timer go off and it's a race to the bread maker, LOL! The bread is absolutely delicious . DH has even made foccaccia, pizza dough and rolls.

We use ours sporadically - Ours is a Tefal and we love it. We tend not to use it for everyday bread needs as the bread is so damn nice we'd consume a loaf in a day, not good for the waist lines. We add pizza sauce, cheese or olives to make some flavoured breads - YUM

We use it for pizza dough regularly, its awesome

If you bought it to make your every day bread, I think you'd save a heap, although it depends what bread you buy. These days you can get a loaf for $1

I agree with some of the other posters, you do get what you pay for generally with appliances, so look into it before going for the cheapest one

Happy Bread Making - your house will smell devine!!
