My MCHN said that it is easier to toilet train straight to the toilet with one of those stair and seat contraptions.... What do you think?
Did you use this option or a potty?
i like the potty idea, because then the child can do it themself without needing assistance (to reach or balance) each time. But i haven't started so prob have no idea!
I'm starting with a potty. I think it's easier as you can throw it in your boot for when they need to go whilst out. I can't imagine popping my Moo on a big public toilet. The only reason I can think of for it being easier to go with a stair and seat is you're kinda skipping a step ITMS?
We started with the potty because DD1 was scared of the toilet fir a while. Worked well for us, although for some reason I can happily change a pooey nappy but emptying poop from the potty had me dry heaving pmsl
DD1 trained on the potty. It was great because I had DD2 when we were toilet training so DD1 could take herself to the potty while I was feeding DD2 and I could still see her (the potty was on the tiles near the loungeroom). We had a stack of books next to it and she would read while going. We took it camping and everything. It was so handy. My MCHN told me I was TT her the wrong way by using a potty. When she was fully TT at 22 months (suck on that MCHN!) she graduated to the step and seat on the big toilet.
DD2 didn't like the potty at all and trained on the step and seat. She was fully TT at 19 months. So obviously both techniques work!
Do whatever you and your DD are comfortable with! Good luck!
The gorgeous TD gave me her DD's potty but it actually converts to the steps & seat one for over the toilet.
DD has never had an issue with either, i have found having the potty makes it easier for things like dinner time or when watching a movie as she seems more pre-occupied and leaves going til later so i can move the potty into the room were in rather than bolting to the toilet.
She will however use the toilet (without seat) if she gets to it in time.
Each to their own hun, maybe you could get the stair ones for on the toilet and just a little cheapy for the lounge etc JIC. IYKWIM.
Thanks ladies- all excellent points to consider.
I would love the potty that converts like ZF's- what brand is it?
Is it wrong to want a pretty pink potty???
Haha I've had the same boring navy blue potty for 10 years!
DD preferred the potty because she could sit on it and play/read and scoot on it around the house, which you definitely can't do on a big toilet. She started using the toilet when we moved the potty out of the loungeroom (too many times she'd spill it on the carpet) into the laundry, and apparently it was so unacceptable in the laundry she refused to use it.
She completely freaks out if we go somewhere that the toilet insert doesn't fit the toilet. We actually have more luck just holding her on a big public toilet, but she'll only poo with the insert. So we try not to travel to avoid a child that can scream for HOURS because she needs to poo but won't at a strange place.
