    Cold Sore? Or....

So I have developed 2 little blisters on my top lip, one on the outside one on the inside. They are yellowish in the middle and about the size of a pin head. Could they be a cold sore? My lips have been dry/sore because my nose is blocked and I breathe through my mouth in my sleep. I also have a bad habit of chewing on my lips Could they be a cold sore? Or just because I've been biting on my lips? The blisters aren't sore now. I've never had a cold sore before so what do I do or how do I know? I'm also pregnant (21 weeks) if I've recently been infected with the cold sore virus (no idea how) will it harm the bubs?

Is it tingly? Is there fluid in the blister? Mine usually get huge when I have a coldsore and don't treat straight away. Lysine is very good to take as are the compede patches to put over them.

Ok, so now I'm completely freaking out
Studies have shown that women who have had the herpes simplex virus long before becoming pregnant are at a very low risk of infecting the baby.

The one area that is of greatest concern is if you contract the herpes virus for the first time during your pregnancy. There will be a very high likelyhood of passing it on to your baby. Neonatal herpes as it is termed, can be fatal to your baby. You must get in contact with your doctor immediately...
How do I know if its the first time I contracted the virus? ****...what do I do?

It's not tingly and not particularly puffy or fluid filled...

So it seems what I thought was a burn on the roof of my mouth is also little blisters (my mum had a look) so probably not cold sores (phew) but maybe hand, foot and mouth? I've had an awful cold and my immune system is still recovering from my undiagnosed coeliacs disease etc... I have made a dr appt for Wed just in case though. Thanks Ausgirl and Lilima

Try to stay calm. I am sure the Dr will give you the best advice possible. Also the info on Herpes is usually related to genital herpes, as bubs can contract during a VB.
Maybe ring your obs or midwife?

Thanks Lilima. I'm still waiting at the medical centre and have "back up"
appt with my gp tomorrow in case today's is useless (there is a high probability of this at this centre) I am waiting for my midwife to call me back after she speaks to the OB.

Oh dear - you sound so stressed!! I'd be terrified too! We had a six week exclusion zone for both of our bubs - no kissing the baby for the first six weeks, to prevent spread of herpes virus.

    I'd be fretting too.

    How did your appointment/s go??

She said it "might" be cold sores or something else...took swabs so hopefully results by weekend and she said she'll give them over the phone to save me waiting another 3 hours. She's not worried about me being preg, said it's fine but I just can't take or use anything. I just have to wait for them to heal. I am going to my regular gp tomorrow for another opinion though just to ease my own anxiety. My mouth is still sore but panadol is helping

    Thanks for checking on me
