    Iron injections

I had lowish iron at my 28 week blood test (105µmol/L) so the midwife and I decided on a course of iron injections since I have problems swallowing pills. I had a series of 3 shots, each with 4mL of the iron solution - so a total of 12mL. I am not sure of the strength of it. I had repeat bloods last week at 38 weeks and my iron is now 91µmol/L- it has gone down!

Where did my iron go?! Is there any point to doing more injections if I am not absorbing it?

Have your Haemoglobin levels dropped or gone up since your last blood test?

Have only had the two blood tests - the 105 at the start and the 91 which was taken two weeks after the last injection

If you have been busy a making new red blood cells, that will drop your iron even when taking supplements. Have you tried a liquid supplement if you can't take tablets?

Sorry what i meant was do you know what your actual blood count level is/was? They would of tested it the same time as your iron levels

My Ferritin/Iron levels at the start of my pregnancy was 555(i had an iron infusion) & now at 34wks it's just above 100.
Mine has dropped because my blood count keeps dropping so it takes from my iron storage to keep my blood count up, if that makes sense.

So your levels may have dropped for the same reason
