I'm just wondering what other mums do during the day. My 4 year old DD is well and truely past napping during the day and she is on the go from the second she gets up to the minute she goes to sleep. Her day starts about 6.30/7am and bedtime is 7.30pm when she gets books read to her. DS still has a sleep (but is starting to look like he might drop it soonish). Everyday we do an activity of some description (mother's group, swimming lesson, park, bike ride/walk).
I'm fast approaching the 3rd trimester of my pregnancy and I'm really starting to feel it. I'm just getting so tired and exhausted that I am having trouble keeping her entertained all day. DD & DS will play together but still want me to play too which I don't mind. BUT I am really needing to sit down a little bit each day so I'm thinking about doing a formal rest time.
I feel really selfish because I work 3 days a week so I don't get to see them for 8 hours on those days but at the same time the other days are just exhausting too - gotta love the mummy guilt.
So do you have a rest time in your house? How does it work? Do they stay in the house or do they have rest time in their rooms?
i have rest time....straight after lunch the girls go down the other end of te house and watch TV for a while gives me a chance to have lunch in semi peace. we started it when DD1 dropped her sleep at 2
We had rest time and often DS2 would fall asleep. Still doing it and but I try not to let him sleep cause then hes up till 10pm and I cant deal with that
I hook them up with books to read, some times dvds to watch. Some days work better then others and I was known to just put everybody into my bed (around babys due date) and prizes for whoever went to sleep 1st pmsl, had a pillow infront of my tummy and we would all sleep/ doze etc
We don't have rest time either - *sob*.. DS gave his day sleeps up when I was about 5 months pregnant. Now - I turn the tv off at about 10am, and then turn it back on for an hour or so at 2pm when the girls are in bed. He will generally sit and watch it, and play quitely while I do other stuff (like come on BB haha). It seems to give us both a bit of a recharge. If he is really ratty, I will tell him to go and lay on his bed and listen to a book on cd. He normally ends up staying in there and playing.
Is there anything crafty she can do while you have a lay down on the couch? My secret weapon when I was pg and super tired towards the end was a big container of buttons and beads (big ones so he couldn't swallow them) and he would thread them onto string, or stick them on paper while I lay down. I never got to sleep but at least I was up off my feet. Or even coluring pages printed out off websites. He would pick a heap of stuff to colour and it gave me a little bit of rest.
