    Red face Toowoomba advice?

There is an opportunity for Dh to take a job in toowoomba, and i am wondering if anyone with knowledge of the area can shed some light.

    Is it a friendly town?
Employment would not be an issue but need to focus on good schools, parks and outdoor areas.

the main con i can see at this stage is purely size of the city (it is about double the population of our current regional town) but if we lived in a nice part out of the city it be ok (ie rural or larger block - dont like being caged into estates where you can hear your neighbours in the bathroom lol! if you know what i mean).

any suggestions are very much appreciated

    xx

Toowoomba isn't that far from me.
It is a very pretty city - lots of lovely parks and gardens, and the table top mountain parklands with walking tracks and also lots of places to sight see close by (as in hour or less drive).
It can be pretty cold in winter and rainy.
There is plenty of great private and state schools to choose from and real estate isn't through the roof expensive just yet.
You are only 1 hour from Brisbane if that interests you.
There are lots of great shops and restaurants/cafes.
Lots of theatrical events - plays, etc and kids shows like the Wiggles, Dorothy, Dora, etc often visit.
It is a large city, however I have friends who's homes really don't feel like they are in a noisy city iykwim.
Great doctors and obs to choose from as well.

Nothing wrong with Toowoomba (except it's often cold & raining). But depends I guess, do you want to move? Is this job worth it etc?

Toowoomba is a nice place. Like already said it's not far from Brissy, has all the shops you need. This is where we've gone to get things like grommits for DS1...no probs with docs & hosp (however PM if you want the name of the horrible pead who doesn't like kids!!). Lots to do there etc, great parks - it wouldn't be a bad move just depends do you want to move. We were living about 5hrs from there, so when the opportunity came up to move to Brissy I took it with both hands would have been the same with toowoomba.

    Thanks girls.
The move doesn't bother us at all. We have moved heaps over the past 6 years and enjoy new towns.. Being close tO Brisbane isn't really a biggy we lived there for 15 years and tbh are avoiding going back to the hustle bustle and trying to stay in regional towns.
Where we live now in nsw it rains all the time so would nice to escape that though. As for the job it would b an internal transfer so basically down to if we would like to live there? Lol

It rains, but not heaps and heaps. Until recently we had severe drought - so I guess you might get 1 or 2 wet days every few weeks now.

We just left toowoomba. It is a lovely place! Heaps of gorgeous parks and plaugrounds! It isnt usually as wet as it was over the last year so i think that was a freak thing. It is big but doesnt feel it at all! Very friendly! You could def get a big block, there is some nice suburbs on the outter that you could live in. I would def say its a great place to live! But yes, windy and cold in winter! Lol

We live about half an hour from Toowoomba on the Brisbane side. It is a nice area. Not too big, not too small. Lots to do and very pretty. It is a bit colder than here at the bottom of the range but I think within nice limits. I think it is a very liveable town.

Yes Highfields is nice, Middle Ridge is quite upmarket, Hodgsonvale is about 10 mins outside of Toowoomba and is more semi rural.
