I think it depends on what school it is. I am assuming it is private since you are waiting to hear they have been accepted. There are a coupld of schools in our area & I know one has an 18 months finding out period. My gf son has missed out on the first round offer (offered in June) for him to start in the 2013 year. My other gf found out her DD missed out 6 mths prior. I'd ring the school and ask them.
My daughter's school is currently doing interviews now to fill the final places for next year, and then offers will be made once the interviews are complete. Both my girls were "interviewed" in the first week of school this year. DD1 got a last minute place for this year and DD2 was given confirmation then for commencement of kindy in 2012.
SIL's son was offered a place for the 2012 year at a different private school about a month ago.
TBH I think a lot depends on how organised the school is. I don't think my girls' school is very organised at all!
We already know BM..DS2 will be going to the local Catholic School and they have already advised and are sending Teachers to the Kinders to see the kids and check where the kids are at.
I have been informed you can turn up to any State school you are zoned for on the first day of school and they have to take you, so if it's a state school and you are zoned for it, you should be fine.
i havent found out officially yet either, but i did ring as i was getting concerned that i hadnt heard, and they checked for me to make sure they had the application and they did, maybe just give them a call
