I have been looking for work since DH changed jobs and got a job closer to home (YAY) on less money (Not so YAY).. I have had a few interviews here and there, but not alo of luck and I have been trying for a bout a month... So i finaly bit the bullet and on Saturday I did an online application for Maccas!! lol Got a phone call Saturday Afternoon, Interview Sunday and I start on Tuesday!!! lol
So I am officially a maccas chick!! lol It will actually work out really well shift wise, they are happy to work around DH's hours and also I can have a regular day or two that the kids can go to care if i want it.
Now I just have to be really diciplined and try to NOT EAT ANY!! I am trying to lose weight and Maccas has always been my vice that I have to try to stay away from!! Maybe working there will trun me off my large cheeseburger meals!!! Lets hope!!! :-)
Has anyone else worked at Maccas?? Is it a good place to work????
Congrats! How exciting to have it happen so fast. I worked at pizza hut and know a few people who worked at macca's you end up hating the food, and at least they have healthy options now.
I haven't worked at Maccas but I have a friend who did while she was in high school and uni - she was promoted to manager quite quickly and ended up buying her first house with her Maccas money! They are really good at training and up skilling apparently!
i have worked at maccas and hungry jacks (crew at maccas for 9mths, AM2 at hungry jacks for 6 yrs).. the job will be what you make of it to be honest. It can be a grind but if your like me i enjoyed the environment.. your management team will impact alot on how it is... if they are strong and organised it will be a great experience for you.
It is a team job though as well, if other slack off it does make it hard for you!!
I worked at HJ's for my first job - after standing in front of a broiler, cooking meat patties all day, the LAST thing I wanted to eat was a burger I ate a LOT of salads back then!
Congrats SB! My SIL works at Maccas, and as Beatrix said, it is what you make of it. SIL says there are shifts with certain people that are just horrible, the atmosphere is very strict and it's just not a great place to be. Then there are other shifts with fantastic people, it's a fun day at work! She sees it as just a way to make money for her kids and the timing is great - when they're at school. It's not a career for her so she doesn't mind that it's at Maccas.
And yep, she's totally turned off the food now lol.
I loved working at McDonald's. I still eat and ate all their food. You get a discount on their food too while on shift, makes it harder to resist.
The only thing I hated was all the young men working there, jacked full of male hormones. Had a few issues there and ultimately left after the boss did nothing about a male manager who sexually harassed me.
I haven't worked at maccas, but have worked at a couple of chicken places, and was definately turned off the food - just from smelling it all day (and going home smelling like oil...) I ate lots of salads and boiled eggs, etc. It was fine
congrats again! I hope you have great team members, and it's good fun to be there
congrats!
a friend works there and loves it, they work around her shiftwise (as she doesnt have a licence) and were quick to offer courses and upskilling, then even management training later. i agree it's what you make it, you can use it to simply support your family for a time or as a stepping stone to bigger and better things, whatever suits you. i hope you enjoy it.
only bad thing is now i want nuggets with that wonderful s & s sauce they have, not to mention some fries!
Yes, I would love some fries with that! Congratulations, if I'm ever in the neighbourhood I'll definitely call round to get a large Filet o Fish meal... love those things!
I haven't worked in fast food but my cousins are through and through Macca's kids - been working at the local outlets since they were 15 and now, at the ages of 24 and 20, they're still going strong and working their way up the ladder and enjoying every minute of it It's been a really great thing for them, stable employment, managers who are happy to work around non-work commitments so they maintain a great work/life balance, and they've made a lot of great friends through work. It sounds like a pretty awesome place to earn a buck I hope you enjoy it just as much and get a lot out of it! Good on you x
I worked at maccas for 6 months and my DH has worked there for almost 8 years! He is now a second assistant. I left because it was hard for me having my DH as my "boss" LOL he enjoys it most days. He hate the way other people perceive the job though, so he is not proud of his job iykwim. But he works hard for his money and supports his family so i am proud of him
That's great! I have friends (husband and wife) who both worked at Macca's. The DH started when he was sixteen and eventually became Vic state manager and his DW was a Manager at one of the City stores.
The both loved it for a very long time and it looked great on their CV when they eventually wanted leave.
I now have a nephew working there and he also loves it.
My sister is a lawyer and said that Macca's training on your CV always looked great as they are known for excellent training.
