Help! Terrible surname, my poor child lol

    Ok so DP's surname is.......wait for it...........Brain.

The only names he and I both like are Annabelle and Isabelle and Jade for a middle name, but is this comination not as common asanything? Willow is another DP has suggested, but it's on my sister's list if she has a girl and would possibly kill me if I used it (she is a BB member so be tactful with your responses lol)

DP says he likes "earthy" names. I don't have a clue what he means by that and when I asked him of a boys name example he could give me nothing. If it's a boy, it will be called Shrek or Rango, cos we got NOTHING at all.

Names like Ava or Ella are out, because teamed with Brain it just sounds mean! He hates Sophia, Scarlett (but with Brain, again that's mean lol) and Cadence which are names I've suggested.

    Help!

Oooh, ouch! Would he possibly consider having your surnames hyphenated or something?

I do quite like Isabelle Jade, or even Jade Isabelle

For "earthy" names I guess you'd be looking at more strong traditional names I think - I could be way off though.

Suggestions - Connor, Hamish, Andrew, Matthew, Timothy

    Good luck!

CK - No! No hyphens in this kid's name....his daughter has a hyphenated first name and her mother's and father's last names, it's an absolutely disgraceful name!!! Plus mine is Eakins...Eakins-Brain *shudder* lol

Thanks for those boys names, appreciate it, now I have a baseline and I am fond of a few of them.

Raffy - Prattis 100 times better than Brain lol

Why not just use your family name as their last name? They're your kids, too!

Does you DP feel the same way about his surname? If so maybe he might consider useing your surname instead!

Omg...... Sorry but my adopted surname was woodhead so I cant see brain as a problem.

What's even better is my birth name is hunt and my married name is Duckworth - hunt-duck haha!

Kids will be cruel regardless of name...... When my name was changed my first name was picked on.

With the exception on Ava Brain (more for how it's written than said) I think any name will be perfect for a perfect little bundle!!!! And just teach them how to turn the remarks around on the teaser...... We are lucky that we have uncle C who is very quick witted and I'm sure will pass on his tricks to DD

About picking a surname, if you are worried I'd use your surname.

I ended up using my mums maiden name as my surname so I have 4!!!

I can completely understand your dilemma i had the same with dd but decided to stick with Duckworth..... We are gonna try and push TEDDY as a nickname coz her initials are TED

Brain is not as bad as you think it is it could be a LOT worse. My besties surname is Sale so she cannot use plant derived names or colours or even use a month

We are going with Willow I think its a beautiful name.

Are "earthy names" plant based ?? Lily, Rose, Daphne, Jasmine, Ivy ? Savannah, Indigo, Indianna? Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Pearl ?

I like the names you have, probably Isabella Jade (rather than Isabelle) some others I loved were Amara, Jolie, Ellira (Allirah)

For boys I have always loved:

    Mitchel
    Jacob,
    Zander
Xavier (pronounced EX avier rather that Zavier)

If he suggested Willow and said he likes earthy names, I suspect he means of the earth names, like Leif, Brooke, Skye, River, Raine... But I think most of those would be a bit problematic with the surname Brain.

You could go for more elemental names like Micah, Wolfram, Amber...

Does this train of thought lead anywhere?

Thanks Nae, lots more to add to the list Oh wow Sale is a hard one isn't it!!!

MD - Ohhh Hunt-Duckworth is a cracker of a surname, I love it lol

As far as using my surname only, not an option. Although DP doesn't like his surname, he's used to it, and we're both rather traditional there. My DS has his father's surname and I'd never ever change it, I honestly believe that is the father's right to pass down their name. Plus I got Geekins alot as a kid so no matter what the poor bugger will get teased lol When DP and I eventually marry, I'll take his last name even though it's terrible. DS will be the only kid in our family to not be a Brain (HA!), but his father is his father and it isn't fair for me to change it IMO.

    Ash

I think Annabelle and Isabelle are gorgeous names. Just be sure you wont shorted them to Belle , then its Belle Brain

Has DH ever considered changing the spelling to Brayne . That might work .

I love Annabelle Jade or Isabelle Jade.

I am more partial to Isabella though.

If we'd had a girl this time around, her name would have been Anastasia, just throwing that out there as a suggestion!

    For boys names:

    Anthony
    Alexander
    Joseph
    Jacob
    Lucas

Just don't choose a name started with 'P' or you'll get P. Brain

Oh boy that's a toughie... I was recently thinking of starting up a similar thread as our surname is Hoar. Yes, I changed my name to that. And my first initial is A so I'm technically A Hoar. LOL! Personally I think I'd prefer Brain, but still, that's a tricky one too! Just don't name a boy Brian. That's my advice

So you can actually stand there, straight faced to a stranger and say "I wasn't A.Hoar before I married my husband, but as soon as I said 'I do' I became A.Hoar"
