    Uni + pregnant....... EXAMS

Ok I'm studying a 4 year double degree part time so it's 8 years.

I'm just finishing my first year and I've just found out I'm pregnant.

My question is what now?? I don't want to defer 1st semester, but exams are cutting it fine with the edd 7 June and exams are June.

Is there any way around this??? So I don't just waste a semester off, I'd prefer to take 12 months off after the birth rather than 6 so I'm in a bit of a dilemma.

I did a masters unit while pregnant.

The only downside was sitting exams with raging morning sickness ... but I explained the situation to the university's admin department and organised to have a room to myself so I wasn't distracting all the other students (I was pretty projectile) and so I could have snacks as and when I needed.

So even that was able to be managed.

And DH has been studying a degree by correspondence and has been doing 2-3 subjects a semester for a couple of years now - before during and post my pg! And including while being a full time dad to an infant. Very doable - if you want to make it work.

If I was actually going to be giving birth part way through the semester, I might want to organise special consideration in terms of deadlines!! But otherwise, carry on!

Obviously yours is cutting it pretty close - I would ask if I could do it as a take home exam - EARLY if possible. Just explain why - mature age students, pregnant students and new mums as students are *not* a unique situation, and they might have really standard options available to you. I'd just call and ask what those options are

Have a blast. There will never be a perfect time, because studying while working, while pregnant, with newborns, with little ones, with school kids ... it is all tricky!! But if it's a priority, I would just get into it, even if you're only taking one or two subjects at a time, and maybe doing a summer subject if you can get it in

Totally doable, if it's something you want to do!!

    Good luck!

You can always defer the exams...Depending on your Uni not sure how considerate they would be about pregnancy being a legit reason for deferring.

I'm pretty sure one of the other girls on here, who is doing that same degree I did and was pregnant also around exam time wasnt given permission to defer because of pregnancy. A load of cr@p if you ask me. Hopefully your uni will be more considerate.

On the other hand...EDD is ESTIMATED due date....so you could aim to do them and then if your in labour...just don't show up.

Probably best to speak to your course co-ordinator.
