    Should I be concerned??

DD is just over 8 months old and not moving yet. She rolls front to back (which she started doing at 12 weeks, did it for about a month, then stopped until she was 6 months old again). She won't roll back to front and is not at all on the move when it comes to crawling or pulling herself around.

She can however sit very well and I've been told a number of times that apparently her fine motor skills are great for her age (I guess that's a product to sitting and playing with toys lol). Anyway, should I be concerned about this lack if movement? It seems that everyone elses babies are on the go....

I wouldnt be too worried. All babies will do things at their own pace I know of one mum who was in my BB group whose bub didnt crawl at all and then suddenly at about a year old she just upped at walked!! From memory I think DS was crawling at about 9-ish months and DD crawled at about 10-ish months. I used to try and encourage them a little bit by putting a toy or something they wanted just out of reach so they would need to stretch or move a bit to get it. You could try that and just see if she makes a little effort to move to get there!! Once they do start to move it all goes so fast!!

My niece was the same, she didn't sit until around 8 months and I don't think she crawled until nearly 10, she was just content with other things.

Maybe just try some tummy time again to see if it gets her up on all fours.

My DS1 was slow to crawl - he was commando crawling at 8 months, crawled properly at ten months and didnt walk until 15 months. Does she get herself into the sitting position or do you put her there? I ended up taking DS to a physio at around 7-8 months and she gave me ideas to encourage him into the sitting position on his own, and the crawling kind of went from there. From what I understand if you put them into the sitting position (which is what I was doing) and they are just sitting there they are not learning how to move on their own, if that makes sense.

But if you are worried your child health nurse is a good first port of call and she can refer you on if need be.

Nope... dd3 didnt start rolling properly til well after 9 months and shes 2 weeks shy of her 1st birthday and has just started commando crawling. Very different to her older sisters, but totally normal!

Cool. Thanks for the replies everyone It's nice to know everything is 'normal'. I think I make things hard on myself as, as a teacher, I'm used to having to compare kids and check they are doing the 'right' thing for their age. I need to lose my teacher brain lol.

They can vary soooo much at this stage with their movement! Because she is going so well in other areas I wouldn't be worried about it - she is obviously happy with what she can do for now and I really don't think it will be much longer till we see a post from you saying how she is into everything! LOL. I remember in my baby buddies group, when they were at this age we had some that were very nearly walking, some who were crawling, some who were commando crawling and some who were happy to sit and watch everyone else and every single one of them was normal
